The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

That's really cool cities the world needs more transportation alternatives and carpooling
This is kind of like the Jeepneys in the Philippines and a very neat and efficient transport service.
Technology in action neat stuff .

Knowing how the taxis operate over there, it'll be interesting to see how long this is allowed to last.

They are going to get themselves in trouble using city bus stops/terminals. I have seen similar challenges to services like this based only on the use of existing bus stops.

I think it will remain around since NYC is not able to provide a good bus service to all areas
Meaning that new markets emerge to handle those problems
That said with a city of that size it is nice to have alternative transportation methods and its rare to see someone put more than a days effort into an article he took so many trips that was quality work Smiley

People HATE this type of free market innovation.

They will employ every bit of government violence they can to stomp out this threat to their monopoly.

People love the cheap service. It is government that hate this kind of innovation and demand "license fee".

The people who own the monopoly are the licensed carriers.  They are the ones who hate free markets.

They prompt the government to employ violence to enforce the monopoly.  It's called Regulatory Capture, an essential part of National Socialism.

Real all about it here:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulatory_capture

More likely the licensed carriers also a victim of the whole scheme.

They need to recoup the license cost, and "playing" the game and kill off any unlicensed competitor is the only way.

No.  They are lobbying legislators and filing lawsuits in court demanding government action.
