Team, we immediately need to decide once and for all exactly what the name of our coin is.

Silkcoin
SilkCoin
Silk Coin
Silk

Brand new websites, merchant graphics, social media pages and articles are going live... consistency is critical to successful branding.

Arteleis, if a vote is necessary, let's get one up at the top of this thread ASAP.
Personally, I think Silkcoin is the most elegant.

Ben

SILK should be the ticker.  But the tradename (i.e., as in trademark, and for use in metatags, or the name of the coin in colloquial jargon) should be silkcoin or silk coin, otherwise a Google search for "SILK" would not turn up the coin in the top page of the results.

I too would like a new ticker - SILK or SLK Smiley

And call the currency Silk instead of SilkCoin! We need a distinction as clear as possible!

The only problem with that is the coin wont come up in Google search results.  The tag "silkcoin" or "silk coin" needs to be established as the main reference to the coin, otherwise the webcrawlers wont place it at the top of search results.  That will discourage new crypto adopters from adopting it. We want it to be distinguished from the metatag "Silk" which already referes to a million other things online.

Definitely SILK for the ticker!

Thats correct.

The only other names that i think could work is silk crypto or silkstream.

But the community has made it clear what name to keep.

Changing the ticker is a good move.

Lol good heckle

Everyone who held on to their SC is going to be happy.  Everyone who is negative is either (1) a daytrader who doesnt care about the brand and deserves their own bitter, meaningless lives, or (2) someone who sold all their coins and doesnt want to see anyone else prosper if they cant also and therefore deserves their own bitter, meaningless lives.  SC has endured.  Sorry if you didnt.

He said in his post that he is not only working on it, but invested his own money into purchasing some SilkCoin now.  Seems like now that he's got a stake in the financial future of the coin, he would be forthcoming with updates and assistance.

He said in his post that he is not only working on it, but invested his own money into purchasing some SilkCoin now.  Seems like now that he's got a stake in the financial future of the coin, he would be forthcoming with updates and assistance.
Then, how come he...
  • Hasn't proven his stake in the coin? Anyone can just claim to have bought x million coins, it's meaningless
  • Doesn't communicate with the SILK Team on the collaboration platform Trello or any other way known to me at all? There clearly are 2 developers who actually ARE working on and releasing fixes and he has no interest in acknowledging that?
  • Hasn't posted anything whatsoever in the official ANN? No progress updates for the release or any of his other promises. Not so much as a 'hi, I'm still alive'.
all while being online and posting elsewhere at the same time? That is just indecent and disrespectful towards the SILK community.

If any of his last known claims were true, he wouldn't just ignore the above issues for the sake of his (supposed) investment in SILK, his reputation and credibility (which wasn't that incredible to begin with, I don't know why everyone got their panties wet before anything substantial was actually delivered, not just promised).

Naturally, Murraycoin will soon hit the scam coin lists. One sign of that I can point out - a couple days ago I posted on the Murraycoin thread asking him not to ignore his commitment to SILK and you can guess what happened. My post was deleted within minutes (if needed - I can post a screenshot of the automated message I got sent which informed me of the deletion). "I wonder, why?" Try to do the same thing I did and I'm sure you'll get the same result.

At this point, though, do we even give a shit? The only he thing he did manage to do was rounding up the remaining SILK supporters, filling them with much needed hope and inspire many others to form a team and contribute in any way they can. So now, to my knowledge we have two other great devs who don't throw bullshit claims and empty promises around and still deliver the updates that we need.

In the cut-throat cryptocoin world, there is no excuse for blatantly, repeatedly avoiding communication and addressing IMPORTANT ISSUES AND QUESTIONS from people after you convinced them to TRUST and DEPEND on you. If not for the enthusiastic people behind the coin now, people would be left naked with nothing but the bags they hold after your promises enticed them to keep them or invest more.

"Being busy" (supposedly; we cannot verify that) excuses are not helping - if he bit off more than he could chew that is his own fault - who takes on projects they can't deliver? People who enjoy scamming or wasting people's time. Could I be exaggerating, could this all would be a misunderstanding and he will shortly appear and convince everyone that he gives a shit? Snowball's chance in hell.

I bet he is done for and he knows it. It would be a miracle if he ever so much as shows his face around SILK again. He could be a man and admit he fucked up and perhaps Murraycoin community would not take this personally, as he didn't abandon them, to be fair.

That would be good as he has already recieved donations from megaman and judgecrypto for the amount of 1 btc to help with the project.  Unfortunatley nobody in the silk community has had any contact despite multiple attempts.  If he wishes to collaborate that would be great, but presently there is no active line of communication.

As well, The new client he proposed with new bitcoin core could seriously jeopardize the security of silkcoin.  BC has a great group of developers and we should be thankful that they act swiftly on any problems that might arise.  With the new bitcoin core, this is not the case.  If there was an unknown bug in the new client, well... We would be fucked.

This is why we are currently working on improving the present client, until at which point the polling site is up, then the community will decide on the future changes and risks chosen.

And to help clarify bholzers last post on the subject for the few that are still uncertain of the progress and updates involving this subject.  If there is correction needed, please let me know.

Back in the saddle here - some travel-dependent meetings popped up and swept me away for a few days (damn day jobs). Here is a brief update/status/report/etc:

First order of business is that in about 4 hours, Murraycoin will switch to Scrypt-2048 for POW; I need to ensure a smooth transition and take care of any issues that could arise/etc.

After that is handled and any potential fires are put out, I will shift my focus back to SilkCoin. First order of business is that I will need to go back through all of the pages I missed and get caught up. Still waiting for this.  Once I'm caught up on all of the info, I will post an update and let everybody know where we're at on the clients, what all I've done so far, and start getting everybody on the same page. No post yet. Unfortunately, tomorrow is a holiday and I will have limited time to work. However, we will be sitting good before the weekend is over.

I'd like to close by sincerely apologizing to everybody; I knew you guys would be frustrated with me seemingly falling off the face of the earth for a few days. This week has been insane but, instead of going into detail and explaining the radio silence, I want to focus on moving forward. Between you guys and all of the Murraycoin people I'm sure this week has resulted in a high level of stress (I have 44 unread PMs right now!) but I want to assure you guys we're going to get this thing nailed down together. We have released a stable client and are working on contant improvements. I'm now invested in SilkCoin as well, if you were curious - I purchased 1,000,000 of them no comment.  but probably shouldnt have mentioned buying a million when price was broken by non-communication- obviously, I believe this coin will be a success YES!! and I'm going to do everything I can to help get us there. We are waiting on collaboration to begin. I staked my reputation on this, my wallet on this, and you guys put your trust in me - I'm not about to let anybody down. We are looking forward to this. This will certainly be more involved than what I originally thought (everything the previous dev left behind is essentially useless junk) Agreed.  Code is junk. Lots of work presently being put into fixing this.  and I thought I'd be killing 2 birds with 1 stone by saving SilkCoin and also creating the most advanced POS code. yep.  We are working on the most advanced code in POS history right now.  Doors are open to collaboration when you're ready.

Just a few more hurdles here, guys. Also... I'm not sure I will be able to respond to all of the PMs (limited time and want to spend that time developing) but I will try to address all of the questions/concerns/etc publicly  (in this thread) once I get a chance to read through everything.

Hang in there - we're almost back in business.
We are already back in business.  And look forward to future collaboration if you have the time. I would like to thank you for pulling all the efforts into one place.  Your skills in writing, and initial promise to the community were commendable.  Please let us know if you wish to continue, and we will invite you into the current dev portal.  Thanks for pulling this community together in the midst of chaos and near destruction.

Onward and upward!

I think his intentions were good, but perhaps did not realize how bad of shape the current code was when he made his promises. I personally would like to avoid any rifts between communities, as well, not only is Silkcoin and Murraycoin small and fragile, so is the entire alt coin community.  Consolidation in respect is a good thing.  There is of course a lot speculation that could be involved in this, but it would be my hopes, to avoid it.  Too many coins cutting each other's head off when by philosophy we should be working together.

One thing that everyone forgets is that the entire cryptocurrency market cap is not quite 10 billion dollars.  This is nothing in the grand scheme of global economy.  We really do need to work together if possible.

1 in every 10 people i meet have heard of bitcoin.  1 in every 100 may have heard of an altcoin.
So just saying.  Embrace any help from any community, words or coding effort.  Crypto has a long way to grow, and to achieve its glory, we must grow together as a community larger then a single crypto.

Not saying your speculation is correct, or incorrect, but please ponder on these words.

I don't have an answer... but I don't see any negative intentions on what he was trying to do nor do I see a benefit on why he would spend so much effort to try to revitalize the SilkCoin community by starting the previous thread if he was just planning to not produce.  Maybe like arteleis said, it just turned out to be more difficult than anticipated and things are taking longer than previous thought.  In any case, you are right, we got 2 great devs and arteleis leading the charge to make SilkCoin better than ever.  I am still up for matching any reasonable bounties!

I agree, I think he prob bit off more than he could chew. Must have turned out to be more work that he originally thought. Hopefully you guys can all work together and make this happen. I am excited to see so much energy and faith in reviving this project.

cheers!
