due to variance, starting a pool is a catch-22 situation.  you can't attract miners until you are big enough (tens or hundreds of ghash/s), and you can't grow to become big enough unless you can attract miners.
then add in the new competition from p2pool (where fees are optional even), pools where they are paying out more than 100%, and fpgas, and ...  sorry, you're asking for a miracle.

If you're looking for a liveable wage, deposit a few thousand BTC with Pirateat40, go to school and pick up a high-demand skill you can sell online (there's much more to starting a pool than you might think), or pick up skills you can use to sell goods online.

That's pretty much it. Have cash and invest it, gamble outright, work hard, or work smart (which requires wisdom and usually experience -- pirated textbooks may be a great place to start if you're poor).

Alternately, scam people. Works for many, and we always seem to need more lessons before learning.

There are a couple companies that work with Google, and pay hourly to do search reviews and other really, really boring stuff. Leapforce and Lionbridge are two of them, I believe. I've done some work with Leapforce, and they do honestly pay $13/hr, but you have to be willing to sit and do boring, monotonous things for hours at a time. Coupled with that, there isn't always work available, and their invoicing system is obnoxious. They do pay though, and it can help fill some gaps in jobs. It's not "free money" by any means though.

@pay.btc: I believe she does have her own merchant account, yeah.  But that in itself won't get you the traffic you need to generate decent revenue.  For that, you need a fan-base+affiliate traffic+social media presence+search engine results.

@tomtheminer: Have you tried Google Adsense?  If you're patient and build a quality blog site, you'll get some organic growth action going and maybe a few hits to your Adsense links.  It's slow at first, but there's money to be made.

A little correction: There's money to be made if they don't ban you before the 1st payout...
80% of the people I know use adsense on their sites are already on their 2nd account after the 1st one being banned for who knows what. Google Adsense forbids life itself. Lack of a Privacy Policy, BAN. Some enemy clicked in 5 ads straight just to fuck you over, BAN. They don't like your bounce rate %: BAN. You get mostly proxy traffic, BAN. You get the point.
