All the exchanges seem to have dropped it

No website-type exchange ever had it, I am pretty sure.

All we had was my Open Transactions server, which is still not a lot of use to normal folks since "Open Transactions for Grandmas" project seems to have gone on back burner...

...And a change in the internals of Open Transactions also has caused all contracts and nyms and accounts to go obsolete, so currently only ancient clients can even access the stuff.

win wallet released

https://github.com/cinnamoncoin/i0coin/releases/tag/groupcoin-qtwin1

t is really untested since I have no coins.

It did find connections and synch up to the network fairly quickly after I fired it up the first time.
Coins with linux only versions don't usually go very far.

If you were thinking of sending me some, send them to Cinnamon instead. Wink

Cinnamon, did you use RoadTrain's repo?

Also, as its not on any exchanges, please please lets use GRP (as I keep hinting by typing GRouPcoin), not GRC.

GRC for GRouPcoin is about as pathetic as BQC for BBQcoin. GRP and BBQ are instantly understandable shorthand to English speakers, why create an artificially less obvious code?

GRouPcoin has been GRP since its original creation. And is ancient so has first claim to the symbol.

BBQcoin seems like it probably was thinking BBQ too, else why not call is Barbecuecoin instead of BBQcoin?

The fact that some exchange or other butchered BBQcoin to BQC seems though to indicate that even if GRouPcoin had been named GRPcoin someone would still have butchered it...

thanks for coins I won't get until i get home tomorrrow or the next day staying across town !!

yes roadtrains repo , i forked it , linux builds right out of the box

i pushed to my own fork the few changes necessary to build on win

compiled with mingw 46, boost_1_55_0 , openssl-1.0.2a , qr support enabled, miniupnpc enabled

tested on win 8 and win 7 vm, now that I have coins I can test further, and check rpc console

hope no one is upset but the logo ect was just like I found it in the tin, just looked like a coin that needed a wallet for windows

thanks again very much for sending coins

When I finished compiling this the other night I was pretty tired,  just realized I did not push the few changes made to source to the proper repository I was working from so everyone can easily see what was 'corrected' to be able to build this windows-qt client. made a little mistake.....

EDIT ONE --I DELETED THE 2nd Repo TO AVOID CONFUSION

EDIT TWO == Suggestion, coding does require you to actually sleep from time to time or you can make a stupid mistake

There are so many repo's floating around somehow i think i pushed the group coin code to an i0 coin repository i cloned..........

No worries , no damage done,  new wallet + corrections + all fixed now

Big hugs to MarkM and mmpool  Shocked Shocked Shocked for allowing me to waste their time and also pointing out what I should have noticed myself  Cry Cry Cry Cry

Source used https://github.com/cinnamoncoin/groupcoin-1

Minor revisions I made https://github.com/cinnamoncoin/groupcoin-1/commits/i0coin-0.8.x

I never ran into rsnel Roadkill however he did the heavy lifting appears commits are almost 2 years old !!!
Tested on win 8 , tested in win 7 also
In linux it built right out of the box.

The wallet I built is on my pc not with me at the time and connected right up to the network and download the blockchain.

Please let me know if the wallet works ok for you / or if there are any obvious issues and when I have time I may be able to look at them.

Please also understand that I get the impression this coin was started/run by markm.  I have other projects I am currently developing /researching.

I am not trying to 'take it over' in any way.

Markm if you would like a logo replaced or checkpoint added (unless you prefer to do it yourself) post the logo here and when I have some time I will try to rebuild it. I know very little of the early history of this coin but difficulty was a couple hundred thousand when I built the wallet and is up to 4.5 million right now.

It can be merge mined with bitcoin and is at MMpool ..... http://mmpool.org/ along with a total of 5 other coins !!

Thanks again to the nice guy and Markm who sent coins to my wallet   Smiley

I sent you two sends of 1000 GRP each. Partly following above precedent maybe but partly simply because when initially shipping the coins out of the wallets they are mined into 1000 is a small enough collection of 50 coin mining rewards that the client can build the transaction.

Players used to roleplaying games where there are so many copper coins to a silver coin, so many silvers to a gold, so many golds to a platinum and so on used to figure that logically GRouPcoin should be a thousand-devcoin-piece since it mints 1/1000 as many coins as DeVCoin does.

Miners might tend to argue though that such a convention ought to be adjusted for difficulty, with GRouPcoin less difficult than DeVCoin thus presumably less secure, it should be worth less than a thousand DeVCoins per coin.

Looking at http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/ingroupcoins.html (Asset values expressed in GRouPcoins) it looks like folks have been losing faith in miners' ability to restrain themselves from throwing away the GRouPcoins for free or close to free; current latest values file shows them worth less than a DeVCoin each!

I wish that the gnuplot plots were working, it'd be nice if the DeVCoin folks would offer a DeVCoin bounty for figuring out what broke with those, basically the plot pages worked nicely when I was running gnuplot on Fedora but when I changed over my home systems to Ubuntu suddenly all the HTML pages of plots produced and uploaded to the webserver just look like blank pages now with the Firefox that comes with Ubuntu.

( Links to tables and plots are shown on the menu page http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/digitalisassets.html )

Still, one can scroll down the http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/ingroupcoins.html page to see that GRouPcoin was not valued so low in the past...

Last time bitpop offered to sell me some at the rates shown in the latest rates include-file (from historical archives of which the tables and plots are generated) I said I kind of had enough for now and he said well maybe he will just give them to me someday then. I anecdotally mentioned that conversation to some players (of Galactic Milieu of course) and pretty soon they all seem to have decided to just sit and wait for miners to give them away. Smiley

So thanks bitpop for at least giving them as bounties to someone deserving instead of just giving them to a rich old fart such as me. Smiley

I did create it, as hired hand working for Unthinkingbit to help him create DeVCoin.

We made GRouPcoin first as a testbed to test various coding approaches toward what he wanted DeVCoin to do, then once we figured out how to code DeVCoin GRouPcoin was left as a simple 50 coins per block forever coin.

He would have been fine with just abandoning it but the gamers who had mined it to help us run the testing didn't want their characters in games to wake up without their GRouPcoins in their backpacks kind of thing so we just kept it running so the folks using it could keep on using it.

Gamers can be great for playtesting stuff but taking away their pile of sand after they have built their sandcastles with it just isn't kosher. Smiley

So technically it is just slightly older than DeVCoin, but is part of DeVCoin development so maybe should be thought of more as part of the DeVCoin project than as a rival coin that preceded DeVCoin.

(As I mentioned, gamers used to copper silver gold platinum etc at fixed exchange rates kind of hoped it would simply function as a 1000-DeVCoins denomination coin.)

Cinnamon, I am sending you two more sends of 1000 GRP each, do you think you could put your github repo at a less confusing URL, one that actually says GRouPcoin instead of I0Coin and without another URL embedded in the URL ?

I will rename repository asap probably tonight : it will change the url so I will then edit the corrections here so no one gets a 'dead link'. Difficult to do properly without some of my hardware atm.  Cheesy

As req I deleted the unnecessary duplicate repo on github & renamed my fork of the other Groupcoinmaster

I edited my posts in the thread here with updated url's since when you rename a repo those url's are no longer valid.

Cheers :-)

That's great work, thanks!

Would you be at all interested in having a look at the Geistgeld (XGG) client? I've been trying to get it running with my merge mining p2pool node for yonks, I eventually managed to get it compiled & running, but it sends my memory usage into overload & eventually clogs the system up. It's a shame not to use it......

Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated - it's beaten me  Sad

GeistGeld only has the so called "dirty fix" of the RAM problem, not the full/clean fix.

That is still way better than no fix at all, of course.

The .git/config in the repo I have been using loks like that:

Code:
[core]
        repositoryformatversion = 0
        filemode = true
        bare = false
        logallrefupdates = true
[remote "origin"]
        url = https://github.com/rsnel/geistgeld.git
        fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
[branch "geistgeld_dirty_fix"]
        remote = origin
        merge = refs/heads/geistgeld_dirty_fix

Which I think means I am using a specific branch or tag, one to do with the dirty fix, rather than using the bare main top of the repo you'd get if you just used the clone URL github shows you as the URL to clone the repo.

The main problem I have with p2pool that isc specific to GeistGeld is that until I get GeistGeld's difficulty high enough p2pool makes so many requests to it so fast that the operating system runs out of connection handles, then p2pool cannot open connections to anything.

So I would have to solo mine it at higher and higher hash rates until I got the difficulty high enough that p2pool would not choke on it.

This would be solved of course if umpteen people all merged it. It happened to me when no-one else or no-one else with much hash rate was mining it and my pool or main miners went down or off the net or whatever.

Geistgeld's difficulty would plummet fast as it is very adaptive difficulty-adjustment. So very son it wo0juld be at tiny difficulty, nice to CPU-mine but choking to a terahash of mining power on the p2pool.
(My problem with p2pool that is not specific to geistgeld is my Neptune would not get more than one terahash pointed at p2pool though it could get 2 or even 3.4 on mmpool).

Thank you , after almost screwing this job of , (well not the wallet but pushing the code to the correct repository !!)

I think I will revisit Geist at a later time. (maybe)

Actually the more I think about it the more I like Groupcoin ,

No 21 million cap, award never cuts , it pays out 50 a block , permanently !!

Also has good security with difficulty well over 15 million and 10 minute blocks

This codebase 8.x supports level db so lot's of room for expansion of the network..................................

 Wink Wink Wink

A coin that pays out forever is certainly more in line with the 'politics' of the world !!!

Hell no one can say it is a pyramid scheme since you can jump in and mine anytime and get the same rewards

That's great work, thanks!

Exactly what I'm experiencing too.

Maybe a synchronized mining start would solve this?  Cheesy It never occurred to me to try cpu mining it actually.........interesting.

As you might or might not already be aware, General Holding Corp administers the interface between the Galactic Milieu and the underlying bandwidth, hosting, software development and so on that the game runs on.

A large part of the Corp's income is the fee per square mile that Freeciv scale civilisations are charged for the privilege of running a civilisation.

In casting about for some way to rationalise this "hosting etc" cost in game terms, the idea of having it be a cost incurred by the ruling political party, aka the government, rather than the civilisation being ruled, was somehow hit upon.

The idea here is that the accrued backlog of fees incurred by a nation that lies idle for many game-turns would cripple the nation if it was an expense incurred by the nation itself rather than by those who wouldst fain govern that nation.

Doing it this way means that the nation can continue to stumble along itself thanks to the "artificial intelligence" provided by the Freeciv software, without any worries about paying the fee.

Meanwhile though the task of getting one's political party (such as the Royalist Party, the Despotism Party, the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, the Fundamentalism Party or even, if such a thing exists, the Anarchism Party) into power in that nation would become more and more daunting, thanks to the continued amassing of these fees plus the interest charged on outstanding fees.

So the upshot is that ultimately the hosting fees for hosting the Freeciv based worlds are being charged to groups, specifically the type of group that is known as a Party, as in a Political Party.

With this in mind, it is proposed that we tie these fees to GRouPcoin.

Initially the fees will continue to be computed in the same way they always have been, which is to say, in terms of "units of Deuterium", as listed at

http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/deuterium.html

So far it has been customary to allow these fees to be paid in any of the listed currencies, since of course Deuterium itself is a resource that exists in galaxies far far away and thus is not actually available, at least not in significant quantities as a commodity resource, among the Freeciv worlds.

(In fact technically that Deuterium pricelist page does not refer to the isotope itself wherever it may be found but, rather, to delivered units of it delivered to depots located among a certain set of Galaxies Far Far Away.)

However the plan is to first move to insisting that the hosting fee be paid in GRouPcoin, and then possibly, later, to computing it in the first place in terms of GRouPcoin instead of in terms of Deuterium.

Basically we convert Freeciv scale (terrain tiles 100 miles by 100 miles in size or thereabouts) into OpenSimulator scale ("Regions" 256x256 metres) by generously allowing a square mile to be represented by a four by four block of "Regions", thus 16 "Regions" to the square mile, which is where the factor of 16 comes from that leads to the hosting fee being 1.6 units of Deuterium per "square mile".

Political Parties thus pay thousands of thousands of units of Deuterium per real life month to control a large civilisation.

This could thus have a decent impact upon the perceived value, thus the price per coin, of GRouPcoin.

It should be noted, for Parties who might consider taking control of large civilisations, that of course the more shares one owns of General Holding Corp the less of a burden these fees might appear. Smiley

One little detail remains to be looked into though, which is whether there even exist enough liquid GRouPcoins to enable them to work for paying fees? Are there enough in circulation that it is practical for folks to be paying many millions of units of Deuterium worth of them every month? What will General Holding Corp need to do with them in order to ensure the coins taken in get back into circulation to be used again the next month to pay the recurring fees again? Hmm... Maybe in light of that thought it is a good thing that GRouPcoins continue to be minted at a constant rate?

This is good news!  Smiley I've been mining these since I first started on the scene, nice to see GRP finally doing some moves. With regard to weather there are enough GRP in circulation, maybe now is the time to push for a few exchanges? Maybe this would ensure there are adequate amounts available.....?
