Algorithmic money: Bitcoin needs a buzzword and own lexicon

Let's brainstorm catchphrases that would lend themselves well to describing Bitcoin and luring in new owners/users?

A few of my ideas:

Bitcoin -

- a currency not a even a banker with a super computer can create more out of nothing.
- combined user computational speed that puts the best most expensive super computers to shame.
- a currency so accessible the only requirements are being a live and having access to the internet
- a currency more predictable and fixed than the force of gravity
- rendering central bankers so obsolete they'll cry for Greenpeace protection
- so scarce that there will ever only be at most 1BTC per every 330 people at the current world population
- so free that only a nuclear bomb can stop you from sending it
- so transparent the whole world can see exactly how it works

So why algorithmic money? Why not crypto-currency or p2p money?

Well...

p2p is an old buzzword, and one used by bittorrent though. I even heard my bank manager call their bank accounts peer to peer. It's a common finance term now.

crypto sounds shady to most people. Like crypto-jews or crypto-nazis. People who want to hide things. Also technically DigiCash was a crypto-currency (and centralised). Bitcoin's defining feature it uses code to self regulate in a decentralised manner without an authority.

emoney, internet money or digital cash sounds like paypal. Not at all new or interesting.

Algorithm is a neutral word. If someone doesn't know what it means, they will google it and get a good description.

"DIGITAL MONEY"

Why does thus work?  because even though most usd's are digital, most think of fiat as bills you hold in your hands.  In fact even we caution that using Bitcoin is like using cash because its irreversible.  "Digital" is also simple and most ppl understand what you're talking about.  in fact, who do you know of non Bitcoiners who uses the term "Digital Money"?  no one i know.  so why shouldn't we just grab the obvious most straightforward term?

Algorithmic isn't bad but its too long and quite frankly not many people know what an algorithm is.

"Algorithmic money" pushes Bitcoin too far into the "weird niche tech" realm. Grandmothers don't use algorithmic money.

"Digital money" or "digital cash" on the other hand are great terms. A grandmother would use digital money.

"Crypto currency" is a very cool term, mainly because of the alliteration. Not sure about bad connotations? I think for most people "crypto" and "cryptography" are pretty neutral terms.

And yeah like ribuck said, "Bitcoin" is a better buzzword than all these put together.

this word was obviously a short form of "legitimate" but it no longer holds the same meaning as legitimate, since it has become very popular to use the word legit to mean something "cool", which really has nothing to do with the word legitimate and therefore we should stop saying it.

i totally agree.  i've never liked the term.
