Normally I dont post about this, but both this forum and gox are losing connection alot for about the last 10min. Is there an known reason? I know they are hosted on the same server.

I haven't noticed it, and they are not hosted on the same server unless it is a virtualized host.

It was down for about 5 minutes. This happens 1-3 times every day while I'm on (which is quite often). Could just be db backup. Dunno about Gox.

This was going on for quite a while last night. I thought it was maybe my connection, but I have a backup 4g from Clear that I can fire up by enabling my extra eth adapter. Same crap. Also my VPS was loosing connection.
Now I may be wrong as things change, but I thought that the servers were in the same rack, same location or soemthing like that. I can almost remember reading that.

I haven't noticed any outages recently.
Does it always happen at the same time, or randomly? A slow backup script does run daily. That's possibly the cause.

About 10 seconds ago (while trying to load this very page), there was another hiccup. (no trollin', either - honest!)

About 10 seconds ago (while trying to load this very page), there was another hiccup. I often notice long page delays interspersed with fast load times, but never major timeouts. I have always assumed they were due to a heavy SSL load on the server or some blocking I/O cropping up where it shouldn't.

Every night at 3:30am PST the server will get hit by another server downloading the forum's backup at about 100 mbps for about 30 seconds. Edit: I moved it one hour later, just in case. Turns out I needed to do it anyway, thanks to daylight savings...

Turns out I needed to do it anyway, thanks to daylight savings... Im on an odd sleep sched right now and may be up at that time so I will watch. The reason I noticed it was that the api trading soft lost contact with gox. Then I came here to see if there was anything about it, and this site was down. Everything else was fine, Google, Craigslist, ect, but Everytime the problem happend again, both sites were inaccessible at the time, and when api function for gox came back online, the web interface was still down and the market took a .05 drop at that time due to it. My concern would not be the fourm gets backed up, but if the two events are tied, it could cause trading problems.

It's now going to be throttled to 16 mbps as of tonight. I'll know if it worked in the morning.

FYi, the duration of the down time was around 20min in length. 4-5 min windows of downtime followed by slowed connection.

Guess it's the backup that Maged mentioned up there.

I have noticed occasional, brief outages with this forum as well, but I haven't kept track of when. For better or worse, my experience has sort of caused me to treat it as normal and expected on big forums. To the best of my memory, most of the outages have seemed to be during late night/early morning hours in the U.S. Central time zone, but this isn't a terribly large sample size.

Further to this, I have been able to pin one of the downtimes to being at 11:10 PM Eastern time (just happened to me now) for exactly one minute. It never times out, but stays "connecting" for a minute and then suddenly loads the page. Has happened consistently for several days. Similar 1-minute downtimes seem to happen once in a while at other times too, but I haven't noticed specific times yet. If it is a backup script kicking off, there should probably be a throttle on it, whether it is causing the db to run out of connections, or just the bandwidth to be used up I don't know.

Bumping this, because it is still happening.
