5970 & its cooling system

I think so I need to mod the cooling system, because it's stupid.

Did anyone maked custom cooling system for 5970?

If you need to mod the reference HD 5970 you are doing something wrong.  Awesome cooler.  One way airflow makes it possible to stack 3 or 4 in open frame rig and maintain solid temps.

Some more info on your setup might help.

This awesome cooler burns card to 95* C when i'm mining, and it very noise.
I replace cooler for same one, so it didn't help. VERY hot, very wrong.

I'm have a open rig. I can't buy accelero 5970 cooler, so i will mod original cooling system

If it is 95 degrees with no overclocking and a reasonable ambient temperature, then you need to take it apart and re-apply the thermal grease and tape.

1. take out thats stubpid metal plate - it will help air to flow.

Already. Before I'm reappled thermal grease and before I'm replaced its cooler it was 105*C.

Really, I need to replace all its cooler system, it's stupid. One GPU bakes another, what a shame.
Never changed after 4870x2.

Try stripping the whole card and clean it part-by-part...I've dropped the temps on my card just by doing that.

And do monitor your fanspeeds to see if the motor is degraded. I changed one old reference fan that was barely performing 40% of a new one, and got speed increases too.

neo you aren't listening.  it has NOTHING to do with the cooler "being stupid".

There is something wrong with the card.  IT is defective, you have a bad fan (it will report 90% even though it is spinning no faster than a good fan does at 30%), you are suffocating the chips because thermal grease is too thick, or you have improper mounting (thermal pads wrong height, damaged, moved to wrong spot).

I run 24 5970 in 3x5970 configuration.  With ambient air temp of 26C-30C the cards run 24/7 at 99% load with temps <70C.  24 of them in the same room.  A single card spiking to 95C+ has nothing to do with the cooler "sucking".

My only gripe about the 5970 cooling system is that GPU1 gets sloppy seconds from GPU0 when it comes to airflow.  They parallelized airflow with the 6990 which solved one problem but introduced another (blows hot air back into the box).  I wish there was a way to get the best of both worlds without going with water cooling...

Offset heatsinks would be one way, but there really isn't any way to do that is such a small formfactor.

I understand.

So, that may be coolers problem.

But i have a point that baking one GPU by heat wave of another is wrong, very wrong.

I'll try change cooling system, then we'll see.
