I've created a bunch of mockups for the Bitcoin client, here's my most recent and favorite so far.

http://f.cl.ly/items/2x372Y2i1W1A2p2U0Q00/newagain.png

The red thing is a notification to the user that there has been a new transaction since they last checked.

I made this in Photoshop, so it's not any code or anything.

I'd really appreciate any feedback! Thanks.

Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

i like it... stay away from the phrase "My Bitcoin" though... that'll still be tainted for a while yet.

What about "My Balance"? I'm curious as to why "My Bitcoin" is tainted.

Sure is a pretty interface though.  Clean, slick, looks like it would feel really at home on a KDE desktop (with which I'm really enamored).

Build it right, based on XML and the like, and it'd be really easy to "skin" it.  Come to think of it, how about a skinnable BTC wallet?

Glad you like it, but I'm not to familiar with code so I don't know what you mean by skins. I've been working with some developers on the Bitcoin IRC but I am not liking their results that much, but it's not really their fault because I assume it would be hard to code something just like my designs.

A skin basically works like a web page written with CSS.  The app spits out what amounts to HTML code, just a bunch of "draw a button here" and "print some text there."  The skin acts like the CSS file; it puts this text box there and that button up here and colors it purple with 12pt Arial as the font.  When coded this way, the end user can easily customize the look and feel of the app by applying a different skin, which basically amounts to the CSS file and the graphics used.

We should not put too much meaning into a word. Here in germany people are sick from "spoiled words" and rename everything to give it a "less spoiled name" again. They are completely busy from this. No thanks.

I think there should be support for control of individual accounts (i.e. you can send money from one account to another). I think this is something the existing client lacks.

what will you do, if the price raises to 1000$ / BTC (yes, that won't be in the next days or months) and you want to buy an orange or something from a greengrocer with bitcoins?

Use the decimal point, exactly like I do now when i need to send tiny amounts of bitcoin? Roll Eyes
Like you said, Bitcoin isn't worth $1000/BTC, and even if it was the current Unit would still work pretty well, at least for me. Also don't forget that if 1 BTC=$1000 than the minimum fee would have a value of $0.50 which is A LOT. They can address those problems when they come. They'll have a lot to change if Bitcoin ever gets to that price. Smiley

Too big with too much white space. The same complaint I have with the Qt version, it can't resize, and any program as simple that can't work at 640x400 is not well thought out. Likewise, when on the transaction or address book tab, the window can't be made bigger, if you want to grok lots of information.

which part of this photoshop mock-up makes you say it's not intended to be resizable?

it's easy for me to imagine the menu sticking to the left and the right hand part stretching to fit.

Looks like it would be very user friendly, i hope it will turn into something more then a mockup.

Now I might think it's resizable:

It is nice and clean but does look rather empty.   My biggest complaint for most clients is how they show transaction information in the window (can look cluttered with addresses and transaction IDs).
How do you think yours would look?

Tired of substandard power distribution in your ASIC setup???   Chris' Custom Cablez will get you sorted out right!  No job too hard so PM me for a quote

That looks nice and clean. I really enjoy it. Thing is finding people that will actually use it.  Wink
