I like multibit. It isn't necessary for you to sync blockchain constantly unless you want to use the full features. Not really needed unless you are a developer.

I am very satisfied of multibit wallet which is very fast and secure, but a minus if bultibit is that you cannot make paper wallets with it, which means if your machine crashes your BTC are gone.

Electrum does not download the blockchain to your pc. It downloads it to a central server. It does however send change to your main address. For example you receive .1 bitcoin delivered to a receiving address. On your next send of say .05 it will take that .1 from that address and you will find the change under Main account. Electrum meets only one of your criteria. For me I chose electrum because i am running only 120g ssd. If i was to upgrade I may consider running qt but for now electrum is doing what i need it to.

Just to clarify on this, Electrum offers you the choice of whether you want to make use of a change address or not. I personally do not, but it is enabled by default for those who want it.

@OP: Personally, I fail to understand why you would want to use Qt, it's somewhat annoying to have to let it update the blockchain before you can send out a tx. But if you have the internet speed to not have to wait hours for your blockchain to update, and you don't mind backing up your wallet every 100 txs then it's fine to use. I don't like having to continually update my backups so I don't use Qt anymore.

If you're an advanced user I suggest multibit on a Linux partition with GUI.

Why gone? you can allways have backup of your private keys which you can import to blockchain for example.

... I already do run Qt, but I'm instead looking for a different wallet that delivers all change (after spending) back to my MAIN address, so that I can keep all of my Bitcoin at just one address; Qt does not do this.

If you are using the latest version 0.9.2.1, you can enable coin control (Settings->Options->Wallet->Enable coin control features) and put your main address as your "Custom change address" in the "Send" tab.

Maybe I can continue with (the updated version of) Qt after all.
But does this also solve the problem that Light mentioned:

In other words, if I change the settings mentioned by Domino, can I just write down (in a safe place) my main address public and private key (which would then be my only address, even if I receive change) and not have to worry about backing up Qt after every 100 transactions?

With Qt Wallet you don't have to be worried about Ram, It's the hard drive space it takes to store the blockchain.
As on date the blockchain takes 22.6 gig of space in my hard drive. So, do consider that before installing.

Maybe it's verifying blocks or you have too much connections. Mine uses most of the CPU.

Just curious, how many connections do you have (I assume you have forwarded ports to allow incoming connections)?

My ram is pretty much used up when the blocks finished syncing, however, when you are syncing, the CPU usage would be higher. I have set mine to 40 and is quite stable, have not yet to rise the limit. 1GB is enough for a bitcoin core.

Multibit, been using it from start.

I've never used multibit. Doesn't it run on java? I try to avoid that, I just have this weird hatred towards desktop java apps. Electrum is built using my favorite language, python.
