Ive been thinking this forum needs a live ticker for btc price, on the header or main page. I think thatd be a great addition to the site, but perhaps its not possible? Has this been discussed before?

Doesn't seem like a bad idea. However, theymos or whoever manages the forum doesn't seem so keen on doing updates. I'm sure it's because he's busy though. |

All exchanges have their own tickers. What difference bitcointalk ticker would make, it would only give the same information with some delay.

People have shown discontent towards it since it would seem to link bitcoin and fiat together, essentially putting a price on bitcoin, which isn't the idea of it.

Having our own ticker is pointless though. The information would have to come from somewhere, which means that the board would have to trust one of the many Bitcoin exchanges to reliably provide an accurate estimate or come up with its own. And if someone loses money from relying solely on information found on that ticker, then the board will get bombarded with more useless whining. And for what? A lot of sites already host multiple Bitcoin tickers. Why would anyone even need a live ticker here when they would have to log on to an exchange with its own live ticker in order to make a trade? It's just a completely unnecessary feature.

That's a good idea. It should be implemented in new forum software. I'm in the forum almost 15 hours everyday but if I want to see latest BTC price I need to open Btc-e or Bitstamp. Live ticker will be pretty useful to me. We can choose which exchange site rate we want to see on our profile.

This has also been discussed/requested a few times before. I'd like the option... Just another useless (IMHO) feature for the new forum software. If this gets included please make sure I can turn it off.

You can just use the Bitcointalk++ script, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=264337.0Use this, I use it too, and it has many different exchanges to choose from. It also has a bunch of other features (Configurable) that you can try. |

I think it isn't added on forum is because of the major group on opposing side. If you want a live ticker you can use BT++ script. It has other features, which you may like.
