I learned of Factom through konify and in all the information they didn't mention anything about Omni... it sounded like they themselves created this network layer that factom used to store factom txs.

Frankly, factom, or at least, the use case of factom sounds pretty much like what the Clearning house notary service did. However, it was interesting when they talked about combining with storj to build a totally decentralized storage system for public records. Currently clearing house will give you a proof of existence (or notary document) but there is no storage layer for the document itself... a missing piece I always thought it would add value to have. I'm not sure if Drake has anything such as this in the pipeline.

Perhaps then Via/XCH wouldn't even need this omni layer to implement something similar due to the 24 second block times on Via and the lack of political concerns with blockchain bloat which Drak has listed as a strong feature of the Via blockchain.

Maybe I'll take a look at doing something like this myself and claiming some of the 1mm Via that's available for projects and bounties.

Sounds cool. It is something to discuss with Drak. I guess Drak knows about Factom and follows similar 2.0 initiatives.
Yes, and maybe it is useful to make a kind of list of what are particulary strong features of the Via project: 'The lack of political concerns with blockchain bloat'.

There's no such a thing. The "value" of VIA, in significant amounts, is negligible actually in the regular market. Let's see what this "auction" values it at (in amounts around 1 BTC, which is, in no way whatsoever, representative of what you will get in the market if you have to cash in lets shay 20 BTC, whicj would bring the price probably to under 100 sat per 1 VIA...

But one is free to delude himself any which way he wants, of course...

Yes me too, at the current price you can hardly go wrong with it.
I bought a lot of Via when it was still sitting at 30k, so this is really a bargain.
And when it unexpectedly fails I'm not going to be bankrupt either.

Most altcoins are dying. Be patient, in a few months from now it should only remain a handful of them. I hope Viacoin will be alive then, it deserves (technically speaking).

Oh please. Enough with the mindless accusations.

How else can I prove that I own the coins short of giving out my clearwallet password? Seriously, give me a method and I will do it. Though its a bit late at this point as I already have a buyer sealed and we are doing several transactions for the trade. He opted not to conduct via escrow and just chunks of the XCH at a time.

The reason why I mentioned a reputable bitcointalk escrow of their choice was because at least they get to choose the escrow. If I choose the escrow, it doesn't look legit at all. And contrary to your skewed belief, there are still many reputable escrows in Bitcointalk. I wouldn't have minded using an escrow outside of Bitcointalk as long as there is some kind of 'review' of reputation system where I can also verify if they are legit, because well, I have to protect myself as well. The intent was to give the both the buyer and myself a safety measure.

As for the newbie account..its called privacy.

I was willing to work with any potential buyers on how the want to conduct the trade. Escrow or no escrow.
