I'd like to ask the forum moderators a question about the not sending reports on old posts. What if these reports are related to plagiarism? I have several links to such posts. As far as I know, theymos, I think, wrote that plagiarism has no statute of limitations. So is it possible to report old plagiarized posts?

I would like to say: it depends.
- Is the user still active ?
- Do you have just one case of plagiarism for this user ?
- Does it look like "honest plagiarism" ? (Does he make the plagiarized message his own, or is it just a copy/paste ?)
- How old is the plagiarized message? Knowing that :

<...> Your plagiarised post must be old cause it's posted back in 2015 but the Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ was posted a year earlier that's why you still committed a violation as it is stated in the rules and regulations of the forum. <...>
It should be noted that there was no rule about plagiarism on Bitcointalk until 2016, according to web-archive.

So if the user is inactive, you only have one case of a plagiarized message and it just looks like a copy/paste and dates back to before 2016, I would like to say forget it. It's just my opinion, but you can report it, you don't really risk anything Smiley.

Yes, thank you for the reply. I understood your point. You can see for yourself all the information about this plagiarism in my post here. And this information does not fit any of the points you mentioned. By the way, the user I reported in my post has already been banned. Thanks again for your comment.

27. Using automated translation tools to post translated content in Local boards is not allowed.

I have a small question to mprep regarding rule 27: is the automated translation (using an automated translating tool) permitted  from a foreign language into English?

...
mpep has answered this previously on this thread, or better still linked a response from theymos on his opinions

Here is the highlight which touches on your question;
EDIT: In regards to automated translations from non-English to English, I've PMed theymos about it, specifically with the following questions:

  • What is the exact policy on automated translations (both English -> local, as well as local -> English)?
  • When is it [read: automated translations] prohibited?
  • When is it allowed (e.g. possible scenarios or situations)?
  • When is it arguable and up to the moderator's discretion?

Here's what he had to say (publishing this with his permission, of course):

...
In the English sections, the policy should generally be to ignore whether or not it's autotranslated, and evaluate the post on its merit. Bad grammar is obviously not disallowed, but if it's so bad (due to autotranslation or otherwise) that the post is basically incomprehensible, then it's a useless post and should be deleted. If it's translated from elsewhere, then you should generally act the same as if the source was originally in English, asking questions like:
 - Is the quote useful/on-topic in the post's context (especially after being mangled a bit through translation)?
 - Is the user just finding stuff to copy in order to bulk up his posts?
 - Is the user passing this off as his own when it's actually not?

My interpretation: I've seen people posts translated technical questions, and those people deserve to get all the help they need. It would be bad to ban them from getting Bitcoin related technical help just because they don't speak English.

sir, the point is the strong desire of some contributors to learn interaction in each language, it is realized that there is ambiguity because everyday uses local language to discuss crypto or bitcoin on social media. armed with these tools there is an overview to understand ideas, responses there are guides,. in my opinion the motivation is that there is knowledge that can come from people who speak other foreign languages. it's intelligence.
local languages in various countries to find out info that happens around but not reachable in time and place while the universal language (English) reaches the development of information globally and thoroughly.

It is not uncommon for people to retell events or moments far into their real lives, and bitcoin talk forums are fast enough to raise topics and discussions from useful, unique, interesting, quality to many people from various locations in the world.

and i agree to enjoy all the discussions in all bitcoin talk boards and threads with all languages even with that tool.thank you sir

I wouldn't ban any members for using automated translation, unless they are spamming all local boards with shitcoin projects ANN automated translated topics.
We had this situation happening several times in our local board and I always reported them to moderators, that resulted with deletion and sometimes with a ban.
Some people don't speak good enough English language and they need to use some type of translation tools.

In the last two weeks, the question about whether or not one should make posts on some local boards using the help of translation tools has been very interesting for me to ask.
It turns out it's been answered. Meaning I can use the help of translation tools to create posts as long as I don't send spam.
Correct me if I misunderstand this.

Thank You. I am very happy to get the answer because I am not a native speaker of any other country's language other than my local language.
I can understand the meaning of native English speakers, but I can't write perfect English.

Can you add DDoS services to the list of things that aren't allowed?

(None of the topics you linked had ever received any reports, which is why the matter of DDoS services was never really considered.)
This is a tricky one: I had seen the topics promoting DDoS services (in a signature campaign), but didn't expect reporting them was going to change anything because it wasn't mentioned in the forum rules.

Can one get permanently banned for repeating the same offence of spamming a thread over and over with the same crap?
The poster IAW has been repeatedly reported and deleted many times from the Wall Observer for posting walls of crap/ plagiarism with no citation, but just continues with his nonsense.

But I thought an activity counts more than 30 depending on when the account was opened and the number of posts made after account opening because I assumed that for a newbie within 14 days and 14 posts can give a total of 14 activities likewise for 28 days and if the post count passes 30 within 30 days then the activity will be delayed till another 14 days making it a total of 42 activity and that is if you made 42 posts or above and 1 merit to become a jr member then if a user wants to have 1 merit, 30 posts and 30 activity then after making 28 posts with 28 activity, he will need to wait for more 14 days before making more 2 post so as to have 30 post 30 activity and 1 merit to become a jr member right?

I think that you are mostly correct, but you are saying it in a little bit of a strange way, so let me try to rephrase a bit.

Yes.. ONLY 1 merit is needed in order to go from newbie to Jr member... so let's just stick with the activity versus the number of days registered versus the post count.

The most activity points that a member can earn per activity period is 14, so since it appears that JessieJames13 registered just prior to the expiration of the earlier activity period, he was able to earn 14 activity points for that earlier period by posting at least 14 posts as long as he posted at least one time in the earlier activity period, and even if the 13 other posts were to happen in the next activity period, even though he was not registered on the forum for 14 days.

So, as long as overall JessieJames13 has an average of 1 post per day, he can earn 14 more activity points for each activity period as long as he posts one time during that activity period.

Let's say that JessieJames13 only had 30 posts at the beginning of the next activity period, then he would ONLY have 30 activity points at that point (but that would be enough for him to get promoted to Jr Member), and so any additional post (beyond 30) that JessieJames13 makes up to 14 in total for the next activity period will get him up to 42 activity points for that activity period which would be the max for any member being registered on the forum during 3 activity periods and posting at least one time during each activity period, even if the first activity period was a partial period, he still gets 14 points for that first period as long as he had 14 posts (an average of 1 per day for all periods subsequent to the 1st period, since the 1st period allows more than an average of 1 per day, but a max of 14).

There are members who had lost their rank because they delete posts and lost activity points, and maybe if they had ONLY posted one post within an activity period, and if they were to subsequently end up deleting that one post (or having the post deleted by a mod or a thread owner), they will lose 14 activity points.

Hopefully, I am overviewing all of this correctly and clearly enough regarding the main question which seems to be why JessieJames13 has more activity points than the number of days that he has been registered on the forum, and the question of when will he reach JR member status.. .. which reminds me, if JessieJames13 deletes several of his posts (or several of his posts get deleted by moderators), so that his total post count becomes less than 30, then he will not advance to Jr member rank until he gets his 30 posts.

You have the concept right but you're overthinking it.

You can earn a total of 14 activity points in 14 days, you don't need to wait for the 14 days to get up to 14 activity, just to go past it (15+)
Same thing, during the next 14 days, you can get up to 28 activity,
After that the next cap is set at 42. You don't have to wait for the 14 days to get 30.

30 activities in 30 days us very doable.

The most activity points that a member can earn per activity period is 14
This is not accurate. It's possible that a user can earn more than 14 activity in a single two week actvity period.

Assume that a user has made one post in activity period 1 and one post in activity period 2. Now the user has 2 posts and 2 activity.
Now, the user can make 40 posts in activity period 3 and earn 40 activity.

Fair enough.. thanks for the further clarification, even though your clarification does not really seem to contradict what I was saying or what I meant (or what I might have wished that I said but did not), even if I might not have described very thoroughly the ability to make up for past activity periods in which only 1 post (or fewer than 14 posts) was (were) made for various activity periods.

In this same light, for example, if after 26 activity periods (a whole year), a member were to post only 1 time per activity period, then he would have ONLY 26 activity points by the end of the year, and then that member could post 338-ish posts within a day or two (or within that same activity period), and then receive up to 364 (338 additional) activity points by making up for his past periods in which he ONLY had earned 1 activity point for each of the periods.
