We wait. Time will show all.

Remember Aaron Swartz, a 26 year old computer scientist who died defending the free flow of information.

Nothing will be adopted if doesn't give personal advantage to the users, no matter how good or revolutionary it would be to the society in general.

So it shows that bitcoin has some change of sucess, and not another good thing deemed to failure

I would say that the real reason that most people are interested in Bitcoin is because they are hoping that the price skyrockets and it makes them money.

Obviously there are some libertarians that like the thought of taking the power of money away from the Fed and Gov't, and then there is a smaller number of people that are interested in it's potential for micro-transactions.

At the end of the day, I would say the largest percentage of people are here because they are hoping to hit it big like some of the early adopters that got in in the single digits.

The earnings are the smart incentivization scheme that satoshi designed for driving mass adoption. Let this group of people enjoy their game... As for the rest... just follow your principles (if you have them) and learn to dream

Exactly how i feel, people my have the wrong ideas for what Bitcoin is about and what financial freedom really means.  I believe in time we can change and learn new ways to appreciate success and happiness.

I'd have agree with this, I'd like to see the mentality change but it will likely take time!

Why must we proceed with the assumption that profit is a bad thing? Some of the most important inventions in history were invented because people wanted to use their talents to improve their lot in life.

Yes. People hoping bitcoin can go up in value so they can exchange it for "more" dollar.

As fiat "crumbles into dust", an increase in BTC/Gold is more desirable than BTC/cash_prices.

Those reasons aren't mutually exclusive. A person can desire financial success and wish to change the world at the same time.

Money is a very strong incentive to get involved with things. If it wasn't for the stories about enormous gains over a relatively small time frame, bitcoin wouldn't have received that much exposure. That's also the reason why those coins that are directly backed by the USD 1:1 are going to fail.

People are hoping to have similar outsized gains in the price of bitcoin when they invest/speculate in bitcoin.

The main reason people want to use bitcoin is because it is more cost effective then alternative payment methods.

Yeah true, but I would say that 75% of people would rather have the wealth, than the ability to change the world.  Its not a coincidence that the wall/price observer thread is probably the most active thread on this entire forum.

Sadly I can't argue with this. People are very short sighted in general and often fail to see what really generates happiness, hence the state of the world.
