 Princeton Researcher Receives Half Million Dollar NSF Grant

On June 30th, Arvind Narayanan , a Computer Science/CITP Assistant Professor at Princeton and affiliate scholar at Stanford Law School’s CIS, received a $500,000 grant for award 1421689 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for “TWC: Small: Addressing the challenges of cryptocurrencies: Security, anonymity, stability”.

I think out of the 3 things {Security, anonymity, stability}, they would be looking at, the most important would be security for me.

Giving the crypto currency user the sole responsibility to carry all risk involved with keeping his money safe, would be more than most people would be willing or able to do.

I had difficulty explaining text messaging {SMS} to my grandmother, I cannot imagine trying to explain to her, how to use 2FA or using Private keys etc. to access her pension fund.

This is just too much for some people.

Yep, this is absolutely the winner to help the average person not feel overwhelmed and turned off to using crypto. Nothing like waking up the next day and not knowing whether you'll have money or not. At least w/ fiat, there's relative security to know that if you went to bed w/ $100 in you bank account, it's still there and you're able to put food on the table and gas in your car. Security enhancements are a must.

I wonder if the grant will impact the research somehow, the most revolutionairy cryptocurrency didn't seem to have any funding. It's a big grant, and I think it demonstrates there is a serious interest in cryptocurrencies in the scientific community - and - that the NSF imagines a future in which they may be used anywhere. Hodl!

Not neccesarily true, I know of banks, who closed it's doors, and people only got a small percentage of what they had in their accounts at the time. With the looming economic collapse in fiat {If you believe everything you hear and see} my bitcoins will be safely hidden away on paper wallets. Just wonder if it would be worth the paper it was printed on, because it's still linked to the value of the fiat currencies.

I anxiously await more on this story.  Also hope other schools with the funding capabilities try something of this nature.  I'm also most interested in his findings on the overall security and ease of use for the average user of Bitcoin and where that will go in the future.
