A beautiful coin, but call me racist or whatever you want but I would be a bit concerned buying a gold coin from China, there is a lot of Tungsten filled bars and coins in China that are tried to be passed off as .999 pure gold. A random person there is not enough confidence for me to be paying for such an item.

It isn't racist to acknowledge the fact theat there have been a lot of problems with "gold" that turned out to have a lot of tungsten coming from China. :-)
That's what im just trying to make sure everyone realizes before they trust a random man from China making these, even though they were for a "private collection" i would see him "selling his services" very soon and producing these.

I agree.  ;-)
Don't you read the artical carefully? It is not for market consumption and circulation. He was commissioned to do these by businessman friend. His friend will trust him do the job well as he was requested.

Yeah, that's what I call the next generation Casascius coins! But is it really necessary to make those coins from some worthless material? Wink

Nice.

How much premium they charge to make such coin?

i estimate sale value as $2000

$1300 for the gold
$600 for the bitcoin
and $100 for the smelting/labour/profit

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Except Casascius gold coins were in a denomination of 1000 BTC:

Pretty awesome.  I've like to do similar but using cheaper materials since I'm kinda poor.

What I would like engraved is the private key encrypted in BIP-38.  I just don't like the idea that the persons minting the coin will have access to the private QRC code.

Side note, I like how Forbes & Bloomberg are Bitcoin friendly media outlets.

I think silver is really the way to go right now.   Just think about it...in the event of a complete financial collapse, if gold prices skyrocket...and you have all this gold...how would you plan on dividing it up when you need to make smaller purchases?   Are you going to bite off pieces of gold???  Unless you plan on only making large purchases...silver will be an easier medium of exchange...

Agreed, thats why you want a significant amount of silver as well. And ammo, gas, food, drinking water, and medical supplies.

I would have bought one.... except the words on the coin are juvenile and amateur as hell sounding.

Full sentences explaining what it is LOL :  "THE WORLDS FIRST GOLD-BACKED PHYSICAL BITCOINS"

Horrible.  You dont put that on a coin.  You put something Latin, or short and awesome and aloof sounding.  That shit goes on the certificate of authenticity.  Not the coin.

"OPEN SOURCE P2P MONEY" <--- you dont put that on the coin itself.   Smh ...

Terrible.

If only I was around and bought ONE just one back then
That would be a lifer coin unless I was an idiot and lost it somehow or had the most wild night in Vegas and lost it all but probably not lol.

Did anyone notice that the world is backwards on the coin?

A joke perhaps if you dig a hole deep enough you end up in China

Does that coin even have any tamper proofing on it?  Laughable that they're claiming to be the first.  Looks to me like they're pretty damn far behind the curve...
