Moderators please sticky.

Scammers need to control the flow of information to find their targets.  They are VERY sophisticated, employing shill and bought accounts.  There are no legitimate self-moderated group buys, every one has [nearly] always been a scam [with the exception of manufacturer approved reps & proven sellers with long histories] .  This feature allows the thread starter to remove any posts that are critical of their group buy to keep it enticing for the unsuspecting buyer.

The moderators here do not remove scams, and it is really just a matter of time before you get scammed here.  Even if the seller is legitimate, scammers will try to contact you with similar looking names to try to divert payment.  There are no buyer protections in place here, and the transfer of bitcoin is irreversible.  SHOP AT YOUR OWN RISK AND PERIL

Not all of them are scams. Canaryinthemine, Crazyguy, bobsag etc all use self moderation. For some of us it is a way to prevent spam such as other people advertising in our thread etc. although yes it does get abused by scammers.

I really don't trust anything that is self-moderated. People should use that as a general rule of thumb, or at least to be more cautious with self-moderated forums. The owner really controls the topic and is not transparent, meaning that people could be saying its a scam but no one will know because the post is deleted

To say all self moderated topics are a sign of scam can not be deduced logically.
Self moderated does not automatically mean a scam.
Buyer should still perform all due diligence, self moderated post could be a contributing factor among many things to consider.

Fair enough guys, it's just so subject to abuse.  Also I think we all need to start using PGP keys for all communications, it's getting really bad here with account selling/impersonations/theft.

You know, I think people should make use of telephone calls more often.  A simple, couple-minute phone conversation goes a *very* long way in establishing trust, and it's usually a lot easier to flush out and identify scammers.

Trust no one.

Problem solved.

Dogie trust abuse, spam, bullying, conspiracy posts & insults to forum members. Ask the mods or admins to move Dogie's spam or off topic stalking posts to the link above.

please ressolve your cases first, beastlymac, at scam accusations thread

look at your untrusted ratings. you are starting new selfmoderated group buy threads knowing that people scammed by you would post warnings about you

so you can delete them from your threads.

you have scammed my brother, 3.1 btc
you have left negative feedback at him too.

please remove his rating and ressolve all cases from your failed group buys.

thanks.

I think 99.9% is a bit high… I use self moderated threads to weed out spam and amatuer price analysts that post high-res dogie pictures. As always, do your due diligence when investigating new sellers.

Be wary of deals too good to be true, especially hosting contracts. I think a lot of group buy coordinators underestimate the amount of organization and planning required to run a group buy or host equipment. So what may start out as a legitimate operation, ends up turning into a scam when the seller gets in over their head. Find out what kind of experience your reseller has before giving them any money. Avoid long term commitments unless you have absolute trust in that person.

Unless you do a systematic review of every post in this section that was self-moderated, you can not in good faith claim 99.9%. Please provide evidence that we can peer review before you even think about demanding a sticky.

Feel free to read through this thread and make up your own mind. My claims are backed with facts whilst bbxx and curiousminer make outlandish claims based on fabricated and un provable stories. I am ongoing and trying to resolve it as you will see in the thread linked.
