I go to the alt coin announcement section and search for "CGA", instead I get all results from the bitcoin forum with the term 'pizza'. What the mother loving fuck?

It's not broken, for me at least. I've heard a lot of people complain about the search function but, I've never really had any major issues since 2013 and I do use the search a lot.

Results returned when searched "cga" (ignore xpaint):

If you ever run into this problem again don't use the abbreviation but, the full name. It will return more accurate results, because all it's doing is searching key words and "CGA" could be used in multiple words and usernames which would then return non expected results.

Or simply use google search with site:bitcointalk.org as a filter.

You could use google search instead, and add "site:bitcointalk.org" to limit the search results to bitcointalk only. Smiley

straight from the search page:

Google Search

Google search is recommended. It is usually more accurate, and searches through the forum's own search engine are rate-limited.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Hey,
Most of the times I use search button on BTCtalk It shows me some non relevant topics. For example if you search for XPM it is not showing the main threat about Primecoin but put at the first place some strange results as xpm part of some sentence. Use google to search for threats on BTCtalk, it is better.

Check  Search in topic subjects only
Make sure to select specific forum if it's possible, to filter unrelated topics.

The search function here doesn't work very good to be honest, and I usually use the bitcointa.lk search or google search instead.

Use google from and try sorting the posts by time. This is the most effective way for me. I usually end up with 2011 posts when I search using the forum's search.
