Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

I'd guess that because except for a few fervent denialists, the market already reacted to Gox's obvious insolvency weeks ago.

I do have some. Buying 100 right now would require putting my eggs in too few baskets, though.

If I could somehow invest in "some distributed virtual currency either now in existence or yet to be created", I might be willing to go all in. Even then you've still got one of the biggest risks - that governments come in and somehow declare virtual currencies utterly illegal.

I think the ship has sailed on any major government declaring Bitcoin illegal.  Most have weighed in and have said it is legal but they want certain aspects to be regulated.  Could things change?  Sure, but it seems unlikely.

We just need to get sites like Amazon and other big sites to start accepting Crypto Currency!

That will give us a higher price! Smiley

I would disagree. It is correct that many merchants convert their BTC revenue to fiat as soon as they receive it, however before someone can spend BTC at amazon for example they first need to purchase BTC either from a trader, or on an exchange. This creates upward pressure on the price.

Additionally IMO, it is unlikely that someone would buy the exact amount of BTC that they want to spend at amazon for example, they would likely buy more then the total purchase price so they end up with additional bitcoin then they started with (none) after their purchase. This creates a net positive effect on price.

Another point is that when big merchants announce they are accepting bitcoin, it often makes the news, creating additional awareness about bitcoin, and potentially getting additional people to buy bitcoin and spend it places that would not convert it to fiat right away.
