love the smoke detector. thats smart although it would respond quicker if it were above it all and  towards the rear of all that airflow.

My concern is static. I'm thinking of mounting the motherboards on standoffs and putting them on some plywood boards and then placing them on the shelves. Potentially even running a copper wire to ground each rig as well.

thats a great idea, but make sure its heavy duty plastic and not pvc only needs 70-90 celcius to melt. Or place them on some material that doesnt get affected by heat.
honestly i would buy a metal frame. or even wood would be better imo.

I CAN get metal shelving, but they're way more expensive, heavier and because they have wire shelving, I'm not sure how I'd attach the motherboards? Also, concerns of shorting something is something I think about too.

I have had nothing but problems using that same 8 port USB hub in the 3.5" bay in the PC - will be interested to see if you have the same issues...

its a great setup, but why on earth are you buying/using USB miners? for whatever small amount of GHS you'll get from 42 USB sticks you could probably have bought a 200GH antminer

I have had nothing but problems using that same 8 port USB hub in the 3.5" bay in the PC - will be interested to see if you have the same issues...

its actually a 10 port usb hub that i picked up off amazon. It connects my 10 "Mining hubs to the PC"
It hasnt given me any problems and the PC has been running since september

Actually believe it or not i picked up 42 erupters for a $1 each. don't ask how since i know it sound like Bee Es, but that's why. Who knows if it was real or not. it was through amazon and the order already says shipped so i guess time will tell...

If they deliver, thats pretty fantasic. They will probably mine less than you paid for the hubs, but Im sure you could find a resale market and get $7-15 each in bulk selling them when you are ready to upgrade

Nice clean setup. what is the ant miner sitting on? I have two Antminers ordered. the wiki be my first big boy miners. currently I have a Cube, 7ghs BFL and some BE,s.

Thanks. I built that out of aluminum tubes and two Pinewood Derby blocks  . I was worried about potential heat, etc. and this seamed like a good way to provide a quick base that will dissipate heat. I will probably move to some chrome stackable racks in the future if I expand it but this works great for now.

Risk of damage from static depends entirely on: i) How you handle static sensitive devices, ii) Your flooring/footwear, iii) but most importantly the average humidity.

Humidity >50% very low risk of static damage (in my opinion) to most modern computer parts
Humidity 40-50% some risk
Humidity <40% getting precarious now

It's not particularly hard to dissipate any static build up on your body to a grounded ("earthed") object like a PSU chassis before you pick up a static sensitive device, since a grounded object is almost always nearby when working on computers/miners. If you are playing with many thousands of $ of hardware then a $10 static wrist strap and some good self discipline using it may go a long way.
