According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

There is no contest!

One guy has been behind a list of the biggest major scams.

Coinmart
Numus
Silkcoin
Edgecoin

Shimal H has been linked to these and more. We even have his name, he's a friken school boy in South Africa and he's made a fortune scamming this site. I almost admire him.

Thank you for doing this! Finally, someone with some balls and a strong sense of concentration.

Of course I had to go with IE, but #2 would definitely be Bryce Weiner. I think he can put together a better legal team though so he has a stronger chance of staying out of prison than IE.

I don't suppose the guy that recently hacked bter and stole $ millions of Nxt counts as a scammer for hacking. However, they paid him bitcoins to return the Nxt, and if he does not return all the Nxt he stole I would count that as a scam. Please add him to the list if he does not keep his word.

Nah, being a thief is very slightly different than being a scammer, and the Bter hacker (TheSir is his known handle) at least kept his side of the bargain.

@Conqueror:
EDIT: Thanks, mate.
John Manglaviti/Cointropolis worked for Nxt briefly, but hasn't been anywhere near us since May/June, so I'd appreciate it if you could pull the Nxt reference.
He was hired in to do PR for Nxt, he was never a core member of the Nxt community.

"Moolah Fucker" is Ryan Gentle, btw:

Hi thank you for input, you actually added some value to this thread.
I didn't meant NXT is scam (I don't now much about NXT to say that) but that Manglaviti performed something  dirty on NXT.
But as you wish, I will change NXT to Cointropolis instead  Wink

EDIT> how the hell I missed Karpeles? Added to poll!

It is him.

My name is Bryce Weiner. I'm the developer of AmKoin, PetroDollar, the lead dev on PopularCoin, and I've taken over OpenSourceCoin from r3wt's very capable hands.  I'm also the Director of Cryptoeconomy Engineering at Blocktech and I promise I'll be gentle. Smiley

r3wt was kind enough to provide me with the repo and I am in possession of the private keys for the checkpoint server.  I currently have 800Gh/s on the network. I have purchased 2% of the total coins on the network. That 2% has been moved to cold storage as an asset.

So.. Bryce is finished here now, right? There's not really any reason to offer him any credibility ever again now, right? Please feel free to offer a rebuttal, I'm all ears.

The guy just lies, threatens, demonizes, fails to disclose conflicting interests, apparently he held a coin hostage one time telling the dev to pump and dump his coin at certain times or he would fork the coin and tell his twitter followers to dump the old coin and buy his new coin.

In this way, he is no better than IconicExpert. Perhaps even worse because at least IE knows deep down that he's a crook and will let it slip out every once in a while. Whereas Bryce, he's more genteel but he's getting sloppy too. Still I wouldn't be surprised if IE is jailed before Bryce. Its kind of inevitable for the both of them, however.

I voted for the Moolah fucker [Ryan Gentle] because Syscoin has already been granted an injunction against Moolah by a UK Judge.

Not any more ...

Looks like the end is near for scam coins/ICOs.  Best dump out  and move into something safe and (hopefully) scam free like Dogecoin or Pandacoin, OpalCoin etc.  The Feds are coming ...

http://www.coindesk.com/fincen-rules-bitcoin-payment-processors-exchanges-money-transmitters/

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/sec-sends-inquiry-letters-hundreds-bitcoin-companies-unregistered-securities/

I don't want to hear how "this is crypto, anon, the government can't touch it". Right, but they can touch Bittrex, Cryptsy, etc. and "encourage" them to delist anything on their scam list ... And if the exchanges want to stand firm (like that will happen ...) good luck getting any real merchants to use a coin once they get a friendly call from a nice fellow in Washington.

Some might want to make fine distinctions between Exchanges, altcoins like Etherium, etc. but the guy on the phone with all the power in the cheap suit making $30,000 a year won't.  All the scammers love to put pics up from Wolf of Wallstreet.  Funny they never post pics from the end of that movie when it all went to hell.

China has been itching around banning altcoins for years but hasn't taken the plunge ... exactly.  With the US taking the lead there won't be any stopping them.  Bye-bye Bter, etc.

Crypto falls under the same category as video game currency.  What are you going to do, say that someone sold you Super Mario tokens and they decreased in value?  It's not a sovereign currency.

Thanks, man. I'm just being a bit over-sensitive on the Cointropolis/Nxt thing. Nxt has had loads of FUDding about it, even though the scammer actually targeted Bitcoin using the good old 'amazing investment opportunity' routine and netted something like 50 BTC from members of the Nxt community.
Here's the original scam thread:
https://nxtforum.org/news-and-announcements/incredible-opportunity!/

Please note that I'm not at all certain about who the f**k was being most scammed here. The whole 'my account got hacked' excuse is getting thin by now, but John probably stood to gain a lot more from playing legitimate Nxt PR dude than by pulling this scam....and he was in mid-Atlantic at the time.
One thing is almost certain, though: this job was pulled by someone inside the Nxt community, not some random drive-by hacker.
