hi guys, i am very new to the whole ultracoin mining thing and i wish you could shed me some light on the topic.

i downloaded the wallet client for
    Windows V.733.1

started the client, verified the wallet, backed up my wallet, and encrypted it. i closed it and
made a conf file and changed the user/pw

rpcuser=youruser
rpcpassword=yourpassword
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
daemon=1
server=1
listen=1

started the client again, wrote "setgenerate true" on the console and clicked on "start mining" at the mining section
i thought it was going to start bec it said "started mining" but then after a few minutes which turned to an hour, i checked and the hashrate was still 0.

is there anything else i should do?

thank you

To everybody else, if you want hash, pay the miners!
Increase block reward, or pump price. Otherwise you have a scamcoin, secured by 30 whopping GPU's

Huge chain reorganization just happened.  I don't have the log file to paste here, but I just watched all 50 recent blocks on alenevaa's pool switch to orphans.  Some had over 200 confirmations (since he raised the limit). http://utc.yacoin.club/index.php?page=statistics&action=blocks.

There was a surge of hash power just before this happened, and now it's gone.

I admit I'm somewhat of a noob here, but it sure looks like a 51% attack to me.

I stopped wasting hashpower on UTC way back when ultrablockparty pool stopped paying out...and AFAIK that issue STILL hasn't been resolved. At least if UTC goes belly up the 'devs' could probably find work with cryptsy...cryptsy loves not fixing things Tongue

Well it doesn't appear to be under the botnet crosshairs yet... it is not as vulnerable to attack. You must understand that Kracko really f*ed up UTC with his weird retargetting scheme--despite my warning. He also made it easy for attack with his little trick to "balance" the two pools--again despite my argument against it. I'm not sure why someone who can't think things through was given responsibility, but such is life. It seemed UTC was prime for criminal activity, which is what has happened with one of the main pools? Stealing UTC, not paying out? At what point is enough, enough?

I hope things turnaround. They need to. I'm not holding my breath though.

BTW YAC is at NF17.

'Pump and dump' has no place for YAC, and I imagine a real supporter of UTC will feel the same way for UTC.

It will be interesting to see what changes will be taking place in the future with UTC. There doesn't seem to be a lot of activity of late.

Friends help. I had 3 days is not synchronized purse. Yesterday was a version 7.3.3.1 to version 7.4.1-8 updated but still not synchronized. Everything is connected, the wheel turns, the network is, but the number of blocks just comes. What to do?

same thing here for me - its just very slow to download the full blockchain again - but mine is almost there now (after 3 days on fast connection and a couple of restarts).

I would try it first as a new install on another computer before deciding to upgrade an existing wallet and put your UTC's at any risk.  I just downloaded the new one to trial.

I'm only getting 2-3 connections with 7.4.1 g 8 gdc521c7 - this may be the reason for the flowing honey speed?

I get 5-11 connections with 7.3.4 10 g6135192 dirty beta (which I have been using for ages with no issues)

I live in hope it will finish very soon looks like another couple of hours

I do not load all the blocks again, just three days ago, my purse will not load new blocks. They simply accumulate in the queue, but it does not load them. I've updated the purse in the hope that the issue will be resolved. Yesterday was 3656 units (or slightly larger) 4487 today.

Hmmm, do you really think it is the teams fault ?

I remember they did a lot.
They invest a lot of private time.
They Invest a lot of private bitcoins for multiple purposes and developments.
They made it possible to participate at two large and  different crypto exhibitions.
They arranged before the first exhibition a lot of publicity.
They stayed positive and developed a new website and as I understand Steven and Kracko are still busy in the background with developments.

I think the problem is not the team but the market.
So many coins.
Serious coins and scam coins.
Next to that, the whole crypto market is since the beginning of 2014 in minor.
All the big coins are still down...for a long time... so why could do UTC it better then the rest ?

Next to that, don’t forget that a bank or an institution has a lot of investors and investing funds and payed professionals to do the job.
Every day again.
In this case the team invested private money and time and did everything next to their daily job and family.
For non professionals who did it all allone and by them selfs i give them applause.

And last but not least….
Onley a view good community members did helped from time to time the coin.
The rest sat leaning back and thought they could get rich quick.
A part of them were onley wining and crying, stalking and trolling.
They did nothing for the coin and did dent helped the team.
My advice for you dear pugman and for your "buddies" : Cry like a little cheerleader girl or better, look in the mirror and ask yourself some serious questions instead of blaming the team.

For me, I am not happy how things go.
But I accept how things went till now.
I have to.
I am bagholder and stay a bagholder and wish for better times.
I did invest in UTC, from the start, fully aware of all the risks. 100% aware.
And if not, if there comes no better time for UTC, than I accept it and I take my loss.
Without crying and blaming someone else !

Thanks for your thoughts BorisWCR - I believe you are 100% correct.

Its a huge risk to buy at the very bottom - or what looks like it.  That being said - it can pay off rather nicely sometimes.

But if it does not - you have to be prepared to live with it.  Take your value out as "learning".

Otherwise don't invest in the crypto experiment.

@barbados-fs

 I see your problem now.

I remember that on updates to some of my wallets a while back - I had a similar issue on Windows 8.1.  It was on upgrading to 7.3.4 10 g6135192 dirty beta wallet version (which does not appear to be much different from the one you are using for the upgrade).  They would just not synchronise to the full blockchain.  Some other altcoin wallets have this issue on some Windows systems.

The fix was relatively simple - it is essentially a manual wallet recovery from a saved wallet.DAT file (but take care for each step) -

1 - Back up and save your wallet (wallet.dat file) to several places.  These should be encrypted with a password. Make certain that the backups are the same kb size as the wallet.dat file in your Apps/Roaming/Ultracoin folder (sometimes with copy/paste you can get an error - safer using the wallet backup route - I always use backup and a direct save and keep these offline).
2 - Uninstall ultracoin qt
3 - Delete Ultracoin files in App Data/Roaming (that will include your wallet.dat - so make damn sure you have this saved somewhere else - more than 1 copy)
4 - Restart computer
5 - Reinstall the UTC wallet
6 - Go to Apps/Roaming/Ultracoin folder
7 - Delete the new wallet.dat file in that folder
8 - Replace it with your saved wallet.dat file (saved at 1 above)
9 - Launch the Ultracon qt wallet (7.4.1 g 8 gdc521c7)
10 - You will need to wait for the Ultracoin qt wallet to resync the ENTIRE Blockchan again (a long time).
11 - if you dont understand 1-10 above - DO NOT ATTEMPT IT.

When it has resync the whole blockchain - your old wallet and all old transactions will be included.

I have installed the wallet Version 7.4.1 g 8 gdc521c7 (clean install).  It does resync the blockchain without any issues.  Well in saying that - it did take 3 whole days with a good connection.  It rolls back a few times - but eventually gets to the end.  Check in the debug window/blockchain to get more detail on progress if you wish.
I have tested it with transactions in and out.  No issues at all.

Hope this works for you - I remember my panic when I first struck this issue.

I do not load all the blocks again, just three days ago, my purse will not load new blocks. They simply accumulate in the queue, but it does not load them. I've updated the purse in the hope that the issue will be resolved. Yesterday was 3656 units (or slightly larger) 4487 today.
 Developers, what is it?

Yes, thank you, I will try to do it, but why it happened, vedya I have not changed anything in the system. Just when you start the next wallet happened.

I believe its a problem that occurs with the Windows updates - if you are behind some things stop working properly sometimes - if you do the updates then some things change and don't work properly.

You just can't win.

Microsoft just don't care if its not a Windows program that you are running.

Dear Ultracoin community,

At long last, the much anticipated update is finally completed and available for download! In this update, we have updated the block reward schedule to ensure that Ultracoin remains sustainable long into the future. I know the reward drop may come as a shock to some of our miners, but I urge you that the long term repercussions would be much more severe if we don't take the responsible measures of tapering coin growth now. Block retargeting has been adjusted over a longer period of blocks which will smooth out the difficulty retargetting and ensure fairer distribution and a more secure network that is less susceptible to difficulty swing attacks and botnets. In this update we have decided to revert back to N-Factor 14 indefinitely in order to further our immunity from botnets, as CPU's get faster and GPU's become more powerful this will be a much more future proof solution, it is also still much more efficient than Scrypt and X11. Currently the update is only available for our Windows users, but updates for Macintosh and Linux are on their to be released soon, and I will update when they become available. The update is available for download below and should go into effect sometime around November 1st adjusting for current block time. Lastly, this update is Mandatory, meaning that you must update in order to be on the current most current Ultracoin network, Macintosh and Linux users please keep checking back until your update is available. I also want to thank our miners and community members for believing in Ultracoin and weathering the storm with us, it means a lot to me and the team, and I strongly believe Ultracoin will prosper because of the community and it's support.

Sincerely,

Steven "Rapture"
