I don't know if what I'm about to say is related to your problem. I had this error when using a patched bitcoin-qt (next-test) and tried to use the feature "Send from specific bitcoin address".
Are you using the official bitcoin-qt taken from bitcoin.org?

Try sending less to allow adding a transaction fee.

My guess is that your wallet consists of many very small coins, and combining them to have enough funds for the amount you're trying to send, makes it too large, or so large that it requires more fee than you'd have left.

Try sending a bit less, or try to first send a smaller amount to yourself.

I do Bitcoin stuff.

Try 0.0005 BTC.

You can also just save your wallet.dat.
