Hello,

I am new to this. I had made a deposit to my bitcoin wallet. However the blkindex.dat has messed up and now it will not allow me to access my old wallet.dat.

I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the bitcoin client. Now I did not ever complete downloading the blockchain when the computer shut down. When I turned it back on I received this error. I had 55.664 bitcoin being transfered to the wallet and never got the coins because the blockchain never finished downloading.

Now I had made a copy of the wallet.dat file before I uninstalled and reinstalled the bitcoin client. When I replace the new wallet.dat file with my old wallet.dat file it gives me a runtime error. So here are my questions.

1. Do I need to allow the blockchain to fully download before replacing the wallet.dat file?

2. Why do I get the system runtime error when replacing the new wallet.dat file with my old wallet.dat file

3. Since the blockchain never finished downloading before the crash am I shit out of luck and lost my bitcoin?

4. If I cannot recover this is there anyway I can view the private keys in my wallet.dat file? Like is there a program that unencrypts the file??

Please help. I really hope I am not out 275.00 bucks. I really needed that money.

1. Just make sure Bitcoin is not running
2. Post the whole error message
3. No the coins went to the address no matter what blocks you downloaded
4. You should be able to

Just make sure to back up the wallet!!!

If you have corrupted files you may have to delete all the Bitcoin files. Then re-install. Just make sure to back up the wallet! Wink After you install it, copy the wallet into the right directory and then run Bitcoin.

Hey man,

I did make a copy of my wallet.dat file. Should I replace the wallet.dat after the new bitcoin client downloads the complete blockchain? Because if I do not download the whole blockchain it say that there is a system unexpected shutdown.

Is there anyway I can view the private key from my wallet.dat file?

I would just like to import the address I sent the coins to onto the blockchain.info site but I need the private key. How do I get that?

Pywallet may do what you are looking for. Did you password protect the wallet within the Bitcoin software?
