"A balloon will be launched. With a payload with the previously mentioned components, plus another camera pointing to the balloon to see the burst. (More sensors can be aded, but they increase the cost) The capsule will have Bitcoin logo and in order to attract media and attention a Funded coin will be put inside the payload (Such as Casascius) to be auctioned later.

A logo can be photographed with the earth as background like here: http://www.jwt.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Kit-Kat-Break-From-Gravity-by-JWT-London-still-6.jpg
"

Are you using some kind of weather balloon to do this? I thought almost all balloons explode before they actually get into space, so I think that is what you are talking about here eh? I have seen a video where someone put a camcorder on a balloon and it parachuted back down after the balloon popped when it got too high up.

Heh, this'll be good press.

It'll be interesting to see what the world will think.

If you guys want real press you should send a person up there.  Maybe a company such as Coinbase would be a sponsor.

Elon Musk owns SpaceX and Tesla Motors.  You can buy his cars with btc.

My comments are not meant to belittle what was done.  I'm also looking forward to the coverage of this.  It pays to be proactive as far as contacting media outlets and to have something prepared when you do.  Needing to do less work is an incentive for them to run a story.

so a bitcoin project meant to get some press and recognition around the world has....

.. not asked the press to cover it before or during the event, and is now seeking to only speak to the coin community based forums and press....

hmmm so lets ask some random outsiders that never heard of bitcoin, to tell me if they heard about a balloon being send into space with bitcoins onboard.

.. results are in, and no one has heard about it

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at
