Givecoin
This morning while doing some normal SEND TX we observed that that coin selection code tends to favor larger unspent outputs -- we'd like to change that in order to have the wallet play a more active role in helping to COALESCE the coins back into larger units as a counter-measure to the natural splitting that happens in Proof of Stake staking.

Givecoin The new wallet is based on the last Clean Water Coin wallet -- there should be a pix of it in our photo collection here.
And yes the intent is to launch with the full 500M coins, likely we'll set the first block or the genesis block with some number that represents the amount of V1 coins (around 306M atm) -- and then POW mine up the remaining to 500M in our custom GiveCoin* vanity wallet. From here we'll start sending out small batches to Bittrex that will include generous POW rewards for the early adopters. Not sure how long Bittrex will run the conversion. We'll confirm that with them and then socialize it out here and on BTC.

GIVECOIN
SUCCESS! We have tweaked the coin selection code to try and bundle up little unspent transactions and removed preference for filling a send from an exact match. This combined with the fact that we purposely try and select 10% more coins to be blended back to the loopback address (as change) -- will help coalesce the chain and acts as a countermeasure to the POS splitting code. The reason we are doing this is to manage the overall size of the blockchain going forward. When POS transactions successively split unspent outputs into two it means wallets can fire of a lot of staking on very small amounts which in our opinion "junks up" the chain. We are also hoping at some point to attempt to demonstrate a "predictable hard forking" model that takes all the unspent outputs and creates a new genesis block! This could mean a smaller overall "operating" blockchain, while still maintaining the historical versions.

We will prepare a Beta of the Macintosh OS X bundle today. It's a little more involved since it requires some dynamic library patching and then bundling onto a .DMG image. Fortunately we have experience doing this once before when we did it for the Clean Water Coin project last year. Like or Comment here if you'd be interested in testing the Mac OS X version!

There's a bug in the Windows Console -- if you type "help" it crashes and will not restart. The only way to clear it is by rebooting windows -- so lame! Other commands appear to work like "setgenerate true" and "getgenerate" and "getinfo" works... FWIW, It works on the Mac Wallet. Also noticed that the "Build Date" value doesn't appear correctly in the Windows wallet.

Due to the bug in the Windows wallet (the console crash) -- we're going to focus on fixing that first before release the Mac bundle. -dvd
