That's actually our plan!  To use our 2Give as a source of matching-donor funds.

UPDATED

I'm happy to report out that doabitofgood.com was able to successfully rebuild Givecoind under Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" on a 32-bit iMac (the official Litecoin released wallet is built on this config)

The Givecoind is online and syncing with the network at the moment (up to 30K blocks so far).

Required a couple of tweaks to the makefile.osx that I've noted.

And one stupid bug in net.cpp

The Mac wallet is fully sync'd up and I've just run a test send of 1,000 coins from a cloud linux wallet to the Mac Wallet in the lab and it appears to have worked!

http://explorer.givecoin.info/tx/8f100fe0e6eb4a0c4e29296f1eb7002bd3b5f73d3d91b1cf8f4934323f21a171#i0

Once confirmed I'll send the coins back as part of exercising the daemon.

Next up?  Attempt to build a -QT version

Stay tuned!

Hit a roadblock this weekend trying to get Qt 4.8.6 to build the i386 libraries on the native 32-bit iMac -- ran out of memory while linking the webcore archive.

Now trying for a cross-compile from a 64-bit machine with an -arch i386 compile flag set.

Also, soliciting Windows 7/8 build advice -- the consensus suggests that cross-compiling it from a Ubuntu Linux MinGW environment is "less frustrating" than trying to do it on a native Windows box.

More as it happens!

Just put it out on Twitter a moment ago that doabitofgood.com now has a functioning Mac OS X build server capable of generating Qt based wallets!

Just have a config issue to deal with regarding header files and libraries, but the good news is that I was able to use brew to install qt-4 and then built Qt Creator 2.5 from source without error.  Even fires up nice and pretty ;-)

More as it happens!

PS: This also means we will be able to assist other coins in building Mac versions of their wallets!   PM me for details

I'm delighted to announce that just a few minutes ago we were able to successfully build a brand new Mac OS X GiveCoin-Qt wallet and have begun testing it!

Once tests are done and the build environment has been backedup/imaged (so that we can clone it) - we will start work on building out our Windows Development environment.

Once we can successfully demonstrate our ability to reliably produce production equivalent wallets we will begin enhancing the codebase for a Givecoin 2.0 aka "2Give" release.

In the meantime we appreciate the network hashpower you are giving the project <3

Sincerely,

This is a tiny little thing but it demonstrates that we are absolutely in control of the code and build now:

Modified the About box to update the Copyright year to 2014 and show the "2Givecoin" name for now ;-)

where I can download source code? git repo?

I forked it but have not checked anything in just yet since no changes have been made yet really (other than cleaning up the function calls to correctly cast datatypes in the X11 suite so that it would compile on Mac OS X Mavericks.

You can track it here:

https://github.com/LittleDuke/givecoin

ALL of the effort since last Friday when we announced taking over the development has focused on getting the required resources in place (sourcing a 32-bit iMac) -- getting 10.6.8 loaded, the right versions of XCode, the command-line tools, and all the library dependencies, including building Qt Creator from scratch.

We will now backup and clone the drive so that we can instantly spin up new/additional Mac developer workstations now that we have a stable build environment.

The initial goal is to demonstrate that we can rebuild the current / last released wallets and coind reliably and consistently.  We can now do that with linux coind and Mac OS X coind & desktop-qt wallets.  We have yet to re-produce the linux-qt or the Windows-qt wallets -- but that's mainly because we haven't tried yet ;-)

Once we can demonstrate that we will immediately begin doing the heavy lifting to fix the KGW implementation (which is being exploited at the moment) -- and migrate to a more Proof of Stake base model that encourages long term holders of the coin.

We are currently considering a new "minimum time-between-blocks" emit model that would only accept empty "generate" blocks +/- t-time from target emit for non-staking miners to get a more consistent cadence of coin generation in line with overall lifecycle.

Thanks for your support and interest in the continued development!

Just socialized out on Facebook a few minutes ago:

I have directed our corporate attorney to file the articles of incorporation to establish the non-profit "Strength in Numbers Foundation" to take over "ownership" of the GIVEcoin development.

We will immediately begin documentation preparation to establish it as a 501.3c.

Here's what's planned:

We intend to subject the code to rigorous review, including static and dynamic analysis, and a consistent and repeatable build system that can reliably produce wallets on supported platforms for the public trust.

We will create a certification system to assure that our endorsed coinbases are for the public benefit.

We will work to create the Web of Trust as envisioned by our http://www.idcoins.org research. The heart of that model being deeply rooted in PGP/GPG.

Press release is forthcoming...

We have now successfully built the Clean Water Coin Mac OS X Wallet and will be working to merge the X11 suite code and Givecoin code bases together to bring about 2Give !

CWC JUST went through the shift from POW to POS and its a great model to work from and a lot of experience on that team we can leverage.

We're currently exploring adding in a public-facing Electrum wallet peering server in support of Bitcoin (and Litecoin when they get around to it)

Our primary motivator is to get familiar with the system as we believe it is a better model for wallets and speed adoption of 2Give.

Anyone with experience positive or negative with Electrum would appreciate hearing from you!

We have now a tentative candidate successful build of the Clean Water Coin wallet on Mac OS X that is fully synchronized and have begun testing transactions in and out.

This is important and related as that coinbase recently went through a POW to POS conversion which we believe is the right model for 2GIVE.

All Mac wallet work to date has been performed on 32-bit based hardware per the hints out of the official Litecoin documentation.

We have just placed an order for a 64-bit development workstation that we will begin integrating into our build process to produce modern wallets.

This week our goal is to spin up our Linux based MinGW system to support cross-compiling the Windows binaries.

We have also been in contact with the original developers and they are going to see if they still have access to a Windows VM image that they used to produce the Windows wallets as a backup method for us.

All in all we are pleased with the progress we are making.  Once we can reliably deliver wallets on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X we plan on adjusting the KGW timing function to fix the emit cadence as well as set a block height for accepting POS blocks as well as a sunset height on POW.

We are providing a weekly status to Bittrex to keep the coin listed but disabled while we work to update the code.
