On one hand, stable value enables actual use of btc - trading goods&services, international transfers, and such. On the other hand, current usd worth of btc supply is ridiculously low - can't even trade a couple of high-value yachts and houses. So, if wide adoption is ever to happen, the exchange rate will have to soar. It doesn't matter which of the two causes the other, or if both are driven by a third factor. Stable price at current levels is not compatible with wider adoption of btc.
