Self-moderated thread for discussion of Monero trading and price speculation. Off topic posts will be removed. Off topic includes any extensive discussion of other coins, promoting other coins, or posting of promotional materials from other coins. Non-substantive comments such as Monero sucks, Monero is a scam, Monero is great, Monero to the moon, etc. are considered off topic. Every post and reply should add to the discussion. The preceding sentence forbids repetitive exchanges on the same topic without some topical context. Hostile trolling (which includes but is not limited to use of "meme" pictures to attack or demean) especially by sock puppet accounts is not allowed. When quoting posts, please remove any large charts or other images unless the quoted post is at least one page old. Please shrink (or remove) large images in replies in all cases. When I am speaking as the moderator, and only then, I will write in red. Other messages using red text are not permitted. People speculating on Monero may also be interested in the MoneroMarkets subreddit (unaffiliated) Much has been said, but for me it is important that it is safe, but not completely anonymous and has huge transaction sizes, which reduces the speed of transfers. And if the developers continue to implement it in other projects, then the price can reach 1k. Yes, every year, non-produced blocks are getting smaller, which in turn increases its value.

Is Monero the most mined by the viruses? Can this influence is value?
The reason there's speculation that Monero is mined mainly by botnets is because a lot of the hash power comes from unknown pools. Of course *some* of that is probably botnets, but most is probably just regular miners who value their privacy or simply don't list their pool publicly. And no, it *probably* would not influence value in any way. I can think of one reason why it might be bullish. Monero is exactly the kind of asset that you might expect someone like a hacker or bot herder to want. Additionally they may not have the sort of sunk cost and overhead that normal miners need to account for. Therefore maybe they aren't dumping as many of the newly mined coins on the market as normal miners do. Even if they were dumping direct to market, it won't matter. The emission rate is going over the precipice. Asks will inevitably dry up at these low levels..

You say that, unfortunately anyone who gets something for free doesn't care too much how little they sell it for. Unlike real buyers or miners with value invested. More like bounty coins, dumped on launch for shit all. However I do accept the favourable side effect of increased network power and stability.

I am not sure why 2018 will be the year of privacy coins but I think Monero will increase way too much this year.
Monero was in top 10 coins in the marketcap until last year. Platfrom coins such as Ethereum, Neo, Cardano, Lisk, increased and Monero lost its position. I strongly believe that Monero will take that position again because it has a daily usage. I expecy MoneroV fork will be the accelarator for the increase next month.

Yes, the XMR rise is long overdue. I mean it went high since ICO but there is so much upside potential because it mostly went sideeays the last two years.

Sorry for asking twice, but does anyone remember the US$ OTC broker who accepted monero, I think it may have been cumberlandmining.com, but I'm not sure.
If it was cumberland, anyone have experience using them?

Please point out a Monero ICO for me. Why don't you not spread lies and bullshit. It has in no way shape or form been sideways for 2 years nor was there ever an ICO. Sorry for asking twice, but does anyone remember the US$ OTC broker who accepted monero, I think it may have been cumberlandmining.com, but I'm not sure.

Maybe the guys on IRC can help you on this. I'm pretty sure there is a channel just for that.

Looks like we’ll be moving to a minimum ring size of 7 in the March hard fork. Thoughts, issues, concerns?

Moron. We're being flooded with bot accounts again, I think. Or there's something in the water... Trolls, to some degree I understand. These stupid posts though... Shut off the sigs and watch the bitcointalk.org daily post count drop by 80%

It’s DV Chain. Both DV Chain and Cumberland will trade Monero. Don't expect much hand holding from either of them, however.

Menero is probably the coin with the best use case in cryptocurrency at the moment. If love to see the talks of a merge with litecoin come to fruition

I joined Cumberland (is that the right term?) but have not traded with them as yet. I also have the forms for DVTrading but have not submitted them. At first glance, it all seems a little intimidating. You connect via Skype to a global trading room and make your order, I guess. At a minimum of $100,000 per trade, it's not something I'm going to do until(if) the price gets higher.

It is not set in stone. Many want to leave minimum at 5 and move default to 7. Some want fixed 7. There will be dev meetings now weekly so we will hear more about it soon.
