The next major resistance is ATH (0.011) if we get there.
After that probably it is free fly since only real daredevils (besides miners) will sell as nobody knows how high this will fly. If the Darknet market people start also using (why they wouldn't) their demand might bring Monero to 100 usd each, even higher depending on how low you guys are gonna sell your coins to them.
Mine are not for sale before 100 usd, and only like 10-50 XMR so that I can buy a few gold coins just for fun.  Grin

So fuck it I should just go all in right now then and make a score of a lifetime.

All in is a risky move but sometimes it pays off.

The recent rise of Monero to 5's is in the very same time as this vid was publishded...

Coinincidence....?

With 150 views its a joke.

But I have seen people go all in and become richer then they could have imagined.

I just bought a few hundred more.

Talking about videos. Maybe this one will be one of best investment video advise ever. In October 2015 Monero was worth 40 cents.

A video worth watching again of American Pegasus talking about the price of Monero: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEzNXzZy8e4

Very solid advice and a nice video. Thank you for sharing it.

In order to make money sometimes you need to take risks I guess.
If Monero goes viral indeed the current price is just peanuts compared with the potential value.

I hope this is considered "on topic".  I've been mining Eth/Etc/Sia for the past few months.  Currently I'm mining Eth/Sia at around 1.5 Eth/day and 6000 Sia/day.  Sia pretty much pays for the power, so the $20 (CAD) per day with my nine GPUs is doing well enough.

Came across info the other day on Xmr for the first time -- the principles of design intrigue me and if it were reasonably profitable it would potentially be something I would mine a little more seriously.  So yesterday for a simple trial I set up the minergate GUI and also the minergate CLI and found that the performance was fairly poor on the mining rigs, and it was hitting the GPU performance of the Claymore dual mining (naturally enough, that was not unexpected.)  So I've been running it CPU-only on a couple or three boxes off and on for the past 24 hours and I've found the hashrate of around 130 h/s to be very low and probably is not even paying for the additional power consumption on the CPUs.

So my question is general: Is there a way to GPU/CPU mine this coin in a way that is profitable, or at least relatively profitable as compared to Eth and Etc?  What kind of hashrate would I need to do about $15-$20 USD per day?  To achieve that kind of hashrate, what kind of hardware would be recommended and what kind of power consumption would a person be looking at?  I know these are general questions, but I'm curious what miners are doing with this coin -- how they are setting up to make it profitable...?

Thank you so much if anyone can answer or point me in the direction of materials that might answer these questions.

Here's the link for Monero mining thread, don't waste time with Minergate, they give easy mining setup but crappy performance, if you want to mine XMR, best advice you'll find on XMR mining thread.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=653467.0

From what I know XMR is not so profitable for GPU mining due to the low GPU/CPU performance difference - GPU hashrate = only around 3 x CPU hashrate - also CPU coins like XMR have a lot of unfair competition (IE botnets or admins of large networks that don't pay for AC and don't even have to buy the equipment). If you mine to get in XMR its easier to mine more profitable coins, then buy Moneroj. Of course if the price keeps rising at this pace then you could give it a shot with directly mining XMR, since you already have mining experience you'll figure out the best formula by yourself  Wink

Impressive indeed.
Let's keep it like this.
ATH will be a psychological barrier which is interesting to see if it can be supported for ever. Then the price can rise pretty fast and things escalate.

Concern for that common seed attack is the reason eds adds entropy correct?

Are you talking about the issue with repeated k-values in ECDSA signatures?  In principle EdDSA (as used with Ed25519) has the same problem.  However, DJB's reference implementation uses deterministic k-values (as, I suspect, do all implementations of Ed25519) to avoid the need for a crytographically strong random number generator during signing (you still need a cryptographically strong random number generator for key generation, though!)

This solution isn't unique to EdDSA, though - deterministic k-values can and are used with conventional ECDSA, too.  RFC6979 defines one such  implemention, and I believe that some Bitcoin wallets actually use this.  The difference is that ECDSA (like DSA) is conventially defined and implemented with random k-values (like DSA) meaning that most implementations have an unnecessary vulnerability in the event of a poorly-seeded PRNG.

ATH will be a psychological barrier which is interesting to see if it can be supported for ever. Then the price can rise pretty fast and things escalate.

I personally do not think what you are calling the ATH is really relevant.  I mean.. it will have a psychological impact, partly becvause it was ~0.01 right?  But I doubt there are more than a handful of people who bought coins at that level, and the few who did are most likely not going to unload giant tons of coins.  There was about 3kBTC in volume at that time.  We will have easily quadrupled that volume just on today...  one day...  easily 15x the average daily volume during that peak.

The real technical ATH is was really 0.0043  and if we can go a day or so up around this level I'd say we've crushed that to bits.

The fundamentals here are going to warp the technicals all to hell.  "ATH" is trivial.

The fact of the matter is:

1.  Monero is finally venturing out into actual use.
2.  Many many people who have never heard of it are hearing of it right now.

What we have to worry about is not ~.01. It is the reception of the technology as it stands in the wild.  If all the work done over the last couple years makes cryptonote a usable and stable platform which can begin to scale then we are in for a wild ride, and there's a little chance that even some of us small guppies stand to find wealth.  (If only I still held any Monero!!! glub glub)

On the other hand if the platform is too hard for the merchants and users to use, or if it breaks - Then we probably will not get another chance like this.

Vectors to consider:

1.  Blockchain scalability.
Will the size of the blockchain become an issue?  Do we have sufficient strategies to deal with exponential growth?

2.  A single web wallet.
Most users will use mymonero.com if they do not use an exchange.  Is it robust and stable enough to handle this much more action?

3.  The usual suspects.
Thefts, NSA, Hacks, shady exchanges, etc.  These won't kill us if they happen down the road, but I believe we are vulnerable right now.

As a community member the best we can do now is to perform grassroots PR.  Hold hands with new users.  Help people set up mymonero accounts.  Let people know how to navigate the exchanges. Help them understand how to use simplewallet.  Do not expect them to have the values and skills present in most of the early adopters.  Many may not care about what OS or even the details of privacy.  Welcome them and give them what they need.  Be honest above all.  Warn people that leaving monero on an exchange is as risky as it ever has been.  Don't pretend there are not risks associated with a fledgling cryptocurrency in a post BTC worls.

Do worry so much about your bag Truecryptonaire.  Price is just one part of what were are seeing.  The really fun part, for sure... but on it's own?  Just a play.  A pump and dump.

Monero is the real thing IMHO.
