Monero is the ultimate private money, but right now it is hard to keep it that way when you actually want to spend it.

At this point I'd say it's better to spend it transparently than to not spend it at all (assuming the transaction isn't that sensitive). The more the currency is used the more opportunities there will be to spend it, privately or not. Embrace XMR as good money in general, not just good "private money."

Don't get me wrong, I would love to.  Just point me to a place where I am going to see a sign saying 'WE ACCEPT MONERO' and I will be right there for the new wide screen I am looking at, or maybe that dinner.

It's not so easy though. Yet.  I hope it won't be too long until it is easy - supporting cards accepting XMR loading is the best I can do.  I note that some cards offer retailers the option (with BTC) of not cashing to fiat, but accepting it directly... unconverted.

If Coinbase adds Monero (looks like they will), this will make XMR look even better to businesses than it already is because the business would probably have the option at Coinbase to instantly convert the XMR into their cash balance. I could see a business accepting XMR and instantly converting 90% of it to cash and leaving the rest as an investment. That could be a selling point for XMR or even for Coinbase.

Poloniex book steadily getting deeper...  Action imminent?

This morning there were 270,000 XMR sell orders. And 3400 BTC buy orders. Now there is 264,000 and 3780, respectively. What are you seeing that makes you say that? I honestly want to know what you see.

a few days ago was ~220k and 2800.  Fairly steady uptrend, with the typical fluctuations along the way.  Buys were well over 3800 at time of posting.

...

It's early days, but taking my g/f out for dinner or a weekend away with a little fancy shopping and paying all in Monero via a Visa card would feel damn good... and probably get her to take my screen time a bit more seriously.

It looks to me like you can load the card up with xmr and use it as a visa but i'm not sure if it is loaded with xmr, I think it just sells your xmr and adds usd like any other prepaid. And they they provide a online wallet. I think the language they are using is intentionally ambiguous.

But yeah it would be cool to load up a few hundred bucks and give it to her to go shopping. Smiley

BTW, that USDT token on polo, has anyone looked into it? How safe is it? I read on it being pegged awhile back but I have no clue if it' really backed or not.

It is backed by a US company, Tether, which publishes statements of their USD bank holdings. I have not seen independent audits, but they might exist (not sure). You will have to rely on your own judgment and research as to how safe that is.

Thx, I'm quite wary of these type tokens. Smiley

Very slim probability it will go up.
Basically nothing happened pricewise.  Grin Monero was trading at the same price a few days ago as now (by price I mean against bitcoin, not fiat).

I was surprised to read that people expected the price to go up with RingCT because I think that  most traders are pretty ignorant of the superior technology of Monero and those that understand, believe in and love Monero already have all the Monero they can afford so I thought a price increase would be unlikely today.

In any case, Monero is in an amazing place now, the plane has managed to take off (this was the hardest thing) and will most likely only go higher now, and it's good that it's not going up too fast.

The steady rise hollows the moon.

THAT is so true! They all think because a coin claims it's anonymous that its all equal tech. Idiots trade on what some random person says in the trollbox, you can't get any more moronic than that.

Agreed. However articles about RingCT and accomplishing a hard fork should gain some trust in the ongoing development behind Monero with some new people joining in the fun.
Jaxx wallet accepting Monero in a week or two + successful fork should be positive and have a spike when Jaxx accepts XMR.

It will definitely benefit long term but it seems Monero community will have to deal with explaining why the transaction size increased, how the dynamic blocksize will adapt to it, how it is normal and that there will be solutions to it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/5n78bg/ringct_transaction_sizes_and_scaling/
