Lurker crying as well ..

Question is what will happen as BTC recovers?

Logically we should be much higher on the BTC/XMR ratio but logic does not seem to be applicable to this market.

I'd say its a gamble to hodl instead of converting to BTC but...

We are holding on OK in BTC terms. Id say that's OK.

Certainly we are not being singled out for brutality, if that rises back we will too.

When didn't a huge crash end in a recovery soon after? almost never with any crash of anything

We are less than 1/3 ATH in terms of BTC and what 14 times lower in USD from ATH?

Sobering shit those numbers. But yeah thats from the sick ass bubble.

Luckily for me I have no plans to cash out and am just thinking in order to increase my stash should I convert to BTC for the recovery or not.

It's a tough choice as it seems every one else does (converts to btc) which causes the price to get artificially suppressed during a recovery phase.

I wonder can Monero (or even the crypto markets at large) recover to an ATH from such a desperate drop?

I know we've seen some phoenix like rising from ashes, but even as someone who bought mostly around 7usd, it seems like a gargantuan task to ascend from here.

It's really simple in my opinion.  But then, I am a simple man.

Either the unique properties of Bitcoin (decentralized, no issuer, censorship resistant ledger) are valuable or they are not.  The question is not if crypto will survive this.  Most of it most certainly will not.  But the real question is will the worldwide central banking system survive this.  That is the actual unknown.

If Bitcoin cannot survive a price contraction in the wake of a global economic meltdown then it was truly nothing but tulips.

Altcoins will be burned on the pyre though.  And the question for Monero is: does it's fungible base layer actually offer something that is truly valuable in addition to Bitcoin.

I am still betting yes.

As to value?  We may get slaughtered there.  And it may take a long time to recover from this.

Wake me up when bitcoin quits doing what it is made to do.

Took new positions and bought some with fresh fiat anyway.

Now DCA just for peace of mind. No plan of cashing out either so willing to take gamble. Time will tell if we are fucked or not  Grin

Yes definitely, but not this year. No matter how good things will turn out. Most likely not even in 2021. But that is already harder to predict. We will see $400+ Monero in 2022.

Economic recession had to happen at some point. Ideal would be after next bull market in 2021-2022. But we will have it now. All it will do is to postponed next bull market. On other hand this postponement can be also positive. Monero will have more time to build and develop its protocol and infrastructure. Maybe we will even have Triptych-2 https://eprint.iacr.org/2020/312 by then. Triptych-2 seem to be the most appealing option that is currently researched in Monero Research Lab.

How so?  It was under a buck like just 6 years ago.  Not bad for something made by a douchebag, taken over by a bunch of devs (smart ones), evangelized by a pony and has become the best candidate to replace BTC.

It was over $5 six years ago, but under $0.5 five years ago.  I know we are far from there, but it would be extremely comic if price would go sub $5  as it was after few months of existence when protocol and economy around it was nothing like it is today.

No worries dudes, it might take 'em a few years, even decades .. to have the realization dawn that they're no longer in need of a 'bank' as they're referred to these days whatsoever. Aint a dollar in the world's gonna taste as sweet as that victory, when it does come.

I'd expect quite a bit of posturing in the intervening decade(s?) or so, but I'm quite well equipped to ride it out, by the very privilege that i've got no less than 30 more years with which to wait it out. A decent way to pay for the food's gonna make that all the easier of course.

It's gonna happen, just gotta get outta the trains way is all, let it take crash itself, right along with the cleanup and rebuild. Some people're probably gonna get smacked by that train. But then there's gonna be the digging out of the smoldering hole that's, in recent history, been unabashedly called 'secure hardware, software and operational security' that's meanwhile lead millions of what would've otherwise been human beings toward being entirely interrupt-driven providers of free data over the last decade because they've decided that hardware manufactured from 2010-2020 is even remotely trustable.

Important that if you hold any part of crypto, be it physical coin in your wallet or thought in your head, that you speak of it with every living thing you come into contact with .. not every day .. but bring it up often enough that they start asking questions about it.

Hey, we are going through a system-shattering event that has seen crashes in stock markets not winessed since 1931.

Banks are printing money worldwide in unprecedented amounts. Bitcoin's over $6K and Monero is sitting at what... $43-ish as I type.  I am not worried one bit and here's why...

Just think:
Bitcoin was created in the crash of 2008/9.  Satoshi quoted the Times about bank bailouts in the Genesis block.

Bitcoin was designed to be hard money without third party control... for a time he foresaw. A time. Just. Like. Now.

Sure, the world crashing because of a black swan event made all markets jittery - and the dash-for-cash in Wall Street (and the rest of the world markets) meant institutions liquidated assets to have cash on hand.  They were scared and needed it for margin calls etc. and were probably a big part of the reason for the Bitcoin dump. I know it wasn't the OGs who sold. Not after hodling all through the winter, so close to the halving.

The fundamentals of Bitcoin have not changed, but the macro-economic climate for it has just got… better.   Fiat devaluation with eye-watering money printing and maybe even a credit crunch still to come (as some countries struggle to keep their sovereign issuance afloat) means Bitcoin must ultimately benefit.  It was exactly what it was designed for.

Monero came later than Bitcoin, as has a huge increase in awareness of privacy issues. The fundamentals haven't changed for it either.  Countries are taking more powers right now and will want more monitoring and control than ever, it is inevitable.  Right now we reluctantly accept it as necessary - but they will always want more and right now we aren't watching, but ever-increasingly, they are.

So just when the system which Bitcoin is the answer to is collapsing, and we are all being told to stay in our homes, not even free to roam the streets; we are in sight of the future we worried about, the future we needed Bitcoin for, and the future that we need Monero for.  And it's coming right at us.

Selling now?  Giving up now?  Not me.  Not while I live and breathe.  This is when we need exactly these very tools for our financial security and our freedom.

Price will follow, of course it will. Be patient.

For the first time I see people being nervous. People that never wanted to talk about Bitcoin and Monero are now asking about it.  Even as one of those that is highly invested in crypto I lost way more then anyone else in last 2 months, I am totally calm. After medical and economic crisis we will get social and political crisis. It is very hard to expect that state and money would ever part without the revolution. and it seems that moment is coming fast.

Monero always had low volume on exchanges compared to most other coins. Now that will have big role at it, when even less people will sell. Yesterday I checked few gold merchants and they offers ( what they have on sale) are few times smaller as usual and even bars have huge premium. They simply dont want to sell since they know price will go up in the near future. Same is with Monero.

Someone posted this on reddit yesterday. I am lazy and usually just take daily emission and multiply it with 365 days to get yearly, but this way is the proper way. Yearly emission is what will be mined in the next year compared to how many are now.  hot numbers. We should catch Bitcoin back in autumn. And also Gold.

Some stats:

797 days (2 years and 3 months) remaining to tail emission (7th June 2022)
96.54% of all coins until tail emission have been mined (17.5 of 18.1 million XMR)

Monero yearly inflation
Current: 2.12%
In 1 year: 1.26%
In 2 years: 0.88%

Bitcoin yearly inflation
Current: 2.06%
In 1 year: 1.76%
In 2 years: 1.73%

Gold yearly inflation
1.7%
