I'm trying to use my Antminer S1 on ethernet, but only thing is is that I'm plugging it directly into my modem and not my router. Is that fine?

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

If it ain't beeping, its working, Although I do think you should connect it to your router, and access the IP from your computer connected to the same router/ Wifi Network.
