Could you explain yourself more clearly ?

First how does that work ? and how does that matter ?

I'm pretty sure I have a browser with a btctalk tab left open on one of my PCs at any given time. Does that mean I'm online ?

If you send me a PM while I'm online do you think I will notice it as if it would ring a bell of flash lights ?

Are you really talking about bitcointalk forum or some IM fantasy ?

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Leaving a tab open will not show you online, unless you cheat with an auto-reloader.

I'm tempted to set my status to hidden now out of spite.  I see no reason it should matter if people hide their status' or not.

Please don't. It's actually useful for someone to see when a mod happens to be on. Of course, if you don't want to get a bunch of PMs, then that's probably a smart move.

For most other people, unless you're a business, it really doesn't matter at all.

Sheesh guys it really wouldn't be that hard to write a greasemonkey script to grab the latest time online for a given user and compare it with the current time, and show the "online" indicator manually.

Let me be subtle....

IF YOU CHOOSE TO PARTAKE IN TRADE OR UNDERTAKE BUSINESS OR TRANSACTIONS IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM ON THIS FORUM OR RELY ON IT TO SERVE SAID INTENTIONS IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM, YOU SHOULD BE DENIED THE ABILITY TO HIDE YOUR ONLINE STATUS.

SELLERS/INVESTORS/LENDERS/BORROWERS/BUSINESS OPERATORS/SERVICE SUPPLIERS.

No more excuses.....from anyone.

Now let me be subtle. Stop your arrogance and Iamthebossaroundhere attitude before you make ME mad...

First off, THIS JUST FUCKING BOILS MY BLOOD.

Either people want to be members around here, OR THEY DO NOT.

I vote that the ability to HIDE ONLINE STATUS be disabled once and for all.

That is all.

With regards,
Bitlane

umad bro?

I vote that the ability to spout nonsense be disabled once and for all.

That is all.

Yet another control freak who needs to get over the Internet before it destroys him ....

I liked it when the forum allowed to change PseudoNyms ... that was neat, it stopped presumptions and flame wars continuing on across multiple threads because you never knew who was who exactly so just took the writings on their merits ... and anybody who likes to be identified with some daft pseudonym or another could equally keep their badge. Can we bring that back theymos?

It's all yours if you decide to donate 10 or more BTC to the forum.

It's only per user. Once you have either "Donator" or "VIP" status, you can change your name at will. "Donator" is 10 BTC, "VIP" is 50 BTC or more.

Oh, I guess I missed that ... is there anywhere these subtleties of the forum are posted? Thnx in advance.

And I guess in that vein, the OP is now going to call for 1 btc from users if they want to hide their online status?

I like the status feature Enable/Disable.

When I am not doing business on the forums, I leave my status off, when I am doing business I turn it on to notify buyers/traders etc that I am online etc.

I noticed that sometimes when I'm online a bunch of posts will be made in the market place section and after I reply no posts will be made for a few minutes.

Afterwards I'll go do something else and then check back in and once again a large influx of posts are made.

My interpretation of this is that my online status is being tracked.

Knowing that there is a feature available which allows me to prevent this is very comforting.
