Bitcoins have also been the subject of scrutiny due to concerns that it can be used for illegal activities. The bitcoin system has been characterized by many journalists and economists as a Ponzi scheme. One European bank reportedly stated that it was not easy to assess whether the system actually worked like a pyramid or Ponzi scheme. Bitcoin supporters disagree.

While there's some deleterious behaviors going on in the ecosystem, that's just the human element at work here. If these so-called journalists, economists, academics actually looked into the blockchain they'd know their facts and clearly a ponzi scheme would be preposterous.

Ugh, do these people even have any idea how bitcoin or fiat money works? If bitcoin is a ponzi then so is cash and stocks and shares etc. They just fear what they don't understand.
