Cyropreservation

Before his death, Finney requested that his body be frozen and stored with the cyronics firm Alcor Life Extension Foundation.

His body will now be stored in a 10-foot tall tank filled with 450 litres of liquid nitrogen, according to Wired magazine, having had all of his blood and other bodily fluids removed from his body.

Kinda creepy but if there ever does come a time when technology can repair his ills and bring him back to life, I'm not so sure he'll remember his wallet passwords if indeed this is related to the underlying theme here.

I think people said the "kinda creepy" about using CPR (bringing people back from the dead) or various transplants too.  "You have a dead guy's heart?!?!?!?" :-)

Eventually I bet people will look at it like antibiotics, CPR, organ transplants as a way to preserve someone's life until they are at a medical facility that can help - e.g. from a car accident to a trauma center that is miles away they cool people down to stop or slow functions, or temporally far away from a cure for whatever the disease is.

People used to say it was "fate" when they died and they wouldn't fight it, but antibiotics help postpone death, chemo, surgery, CPR etc.  People use those and don't think about it as anything but normal now.

If you are buried or cremated, your chances of being able to have your health issue repaired are zero.  His are greater than zero, who knows what they are though.
