I normally use the normal bitcoin client, but decided to give Multibit a shot just to see how it worked.

You're right, that worked -- thanks for clearing that up for me.

I would just like to thank SatoshiDice for making me realize I have a severe gambling problem, even though I had only visited casinos (local indian casinos, not Vegas) a few times in my life.  I would also like to thank them for the downpayment on a new house for my parents Smiley

I've had good luck on Dice over the last few weeks.  After tonight I think I'm going to call it quits while I'm in the green at ~700 BTC.  Would hate to lose it all back.

congratulations SatoshiDice on finally pushing bitcoin to its breaking point of a global 7 transactions a second

Problem Lukejr ?

Seriously though, others might be detractors but i doubt bitcoin could have made it this far in the public eye without your casino leading the way for blockchain verifiable gambling.
I do hope the issue is addressed before we start seeing media noise about the 7tx/s limit vs paypal, visa.mastercards XX'XXX tx/s, It could be a huge blow to consumer confidence, but we could hardly fault you for being one of bitcoins big success's.

I would like to see sites like yours offer account logins in addition to the current blockchain gambling method to help ease the burden.
Surely some gamblers would like to reduce their losses due to tx fees, I personally would do this for small amounts (up to 2btc) but never for large amounts.

Heh, the media would take about five years to catch up with such complex issues.

Satoshidice, sending losers 0.00005:

http://blockchain.info/tx-index/59532081/fa8fbd7feba0580fe45a495928d22e03b48349e67f8efc16cfaa8dbccd21f74b

How about sending losers a minimum of 0.0002, so that wallets can be emptied instead of abandoned?:

"abandoned" wallets can be sent coins. But you'd end up spending more just to get the money back? Not unless you let it "age" a bit? Can you make it age long enough that it won't cost a transaction fee to sweep the funds? Or you could feed the private key to Mt. Gox and have it sweep your coins?

I've tried 3 bets and as far as I can tell by using the site's advanced lookup nothing is recorded.

Any ideas?  Quite possibly I'm entering the string incorrectly, or not querying the database correctly when I press the button to look up based on the transaction string.

I'm using the latest version of the standard btc client.

You have to let them age a lot before you can spend them for free.  Once the satoshi dust is around 10^8 days old it's high enough priority to spend for free.  The trick is to include a big coin in the same transaction, to push the overall priority up.

See http://blockchain.info/tx-index/50754520 for example.  Lots of dust + one 1200 BTC coin = free transaction.

Can't you send payment like, every 30 seconds?

Put together a list of all bets and send the winnings in a sendmany.
That would reduce the number of transactions a day and the size of the blockchain, I think.

And 30 seconds is still pretty fast IMO.

That doesn't fix the problem of filling the blockchain with lots of tiny "you lost" payments which will probably never be spent, and so will never be pruned.

Also, the current design is such that your payout depends on your bet, so if your bet never confirms neither do your winnings.  If they use a sendmany then your winnings depend on MY bet as well as yours.  So if my bet never confirms neither do any of the winnings paid out in the same transaction as my winnings.

That results in a transaction where everyone who received a payment in it must spend their dust before the transaction can be removed.

Future optimization of clients will allow disk space to be reclaimed after a transaction is spent (see chapter 7 http://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf), so creating transactions that are hard to spend or never will be spent is bad.

The endgame for many gamblers will be to lose all their money and be stuck with a gambling wallet with hundreds of dust payments. By making the loser dust large enough that it can pay it's own minimum fee to send it, someone can spend the balance of a wallet - it might cost 0.1 BTC in fees to empty 0.11 BTC of dust, but that's better than 0.1 BTC in fees to send 0.0001 BTC of dust (deleting the wallet and starting over would be cheaper and easier).

If SD paid .0002 + .0005 fee instead of .0000001 + .0005 fee to losers, wallets of gamblers would not cost more to empty than their balance.

Hey All,

Regarding the temporary blockchain fork that just happened, I turned off SatoshiDice for now. All bets will still process fine, but everything is frozen until I turn it back on. I did this in case it would assist the devs to solve the problem.

So I recommend you hold your bets for now, but if you place bets, please be patient as they will return to you once I turn the system back on. Nothing will be lost in the void.

Relevant thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=152030.0

Thanks,
