Colored Coins Status Update (2/25)

Hey guys!

I just wanted to stop by and give you guys a status update on colored coins.

The CLI version has been out for quite some time at http://github.com/opalcoin/colorcore

We recently open sourced our GUI (in development) at http://github.com/whitj00/colorwallet

The GUI is built on python and django, and uses the open-assets library to fully use the colored coins features. Some features that will be available in our alpha:

Send and Recieve Opal
Issue an asset on the Opal blockchain
Send and recieve assets on the Opal Blockchain
Currently our main "issue" is support for loading multiple wallet data files concurrently, which will allow users to control their own private keys.

The next few features we will be working on (for the future) are:

Full trading platform for Opal <-> Assets and Assets<->Assets
Crowdfunding tools
Business class colored coin enabled RESTful apis to communicate with the Opal blockchain
And more

~Whit

http://whit.opal-coin.com/colored-coins-status-update-225/

I will be posting regular updates to whit.opal-coin.com, the opalcoin-dev journal

Here was a post a while back about Colored Coins. Once the Full Trading platform is finished my plan is to implement this on ebay and call it obey (obay may not be allowed too close to ebay) since we don't want to obey ebay and create a better trading platform so ebay doesn't keep churning huge profits from sellers and buyers repeatedly reselling the same items to each other. If you took 1 popular item and followed the money ebay makes from just that one individual item changing hands 10+ times you will see ebay is over priced.

So we could create a way that people hold the product and exchange hands using colored coins. We could associate an ebay auction with that colored coin even. When you post the ebay auction just state colored coin payments accepted, then within your wallet you will get an offer, once you accept the offer in your wallet, you just write in the best offer portion for consideration of $1 (so ebay knows you accepted the best offer of $1 and charges you .10 cents for final value fee) to make it legit and the buyer pays Shipping in USD or FIAT. The transaction will be seemless if your colored coin is accepted and payment for that coin in Opal is the only part that needs to transpire.

So many simple ways to make this work and demand will be created by people using it and holding the Opal to purchase more items with. The more people who start accepting Opal the more items you will be able to buy. Obviously most Retailers who paid FIAT for their goods may not go for this, but people interested in the concepts of "One Red Paperclip" will be excited and may push the usage exponentially. We can also call the payments O-Pal take on PayPal but O so much better!

Hi 4emily,

I just tested a fresh win 7 install, it seems to work like this:

First of all: go to your click Organize (upper left on a file explorer), click "Folder and search options", then:
-Check Show Hidden Folders
-Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
click Apply/Ok

Dl the Opal-Qt, you did
Install the Wallet, and... let it crash
go to C:\Users\Yourname\Appdata\Roaming\Opalcoin
Save your wallet.dat in another folder, erase all the files and folder in Opalcoin,
Then create a new opalcoin.txt with the notepad (or better with notepad++)
copy paste these addnodes in it:
Code:
addnode=46.165.209.144
addnode=54.64.155.117
addnode=79.32.104.81
addnode=192.241.222.102
addnode=173.199.124.185
addnode=65.30.37.95

do not add other argument.
save the file as:
opalcoin.conf
Beware ! when i did that, i saw an:
opalcoin.conf
file but, as i did not uncheck the "Hide Known file extension" the file's real name was:
opalcoin.conf.txt (.txt hidden)
You will be warmed "if you change the file extension, the file should be non-readable" or something like that, ignore it, We need a simple opalcoin.conf
the opalcoin.conf file must change from a white and blue stripes .txt icon, to a white .conf icon.

Once you only have this opalcoin.conf, in C:\Users\Yourname\Appdata\Roaming\opalcoin
Restart your wallet... and tell me Smiley

Thanks Voidlord,

I followed the steps you outlined except as regards the conf file which in my notepad program can only be saved as a txt file, so having dragged/dropped it into my roaming folder I renamed it in there by simply deleting the .txt suffix

Then, with the only file in the roaming folder being the renamed opalcoin.conf file I started the wallet which synced for far longer than on previous attempts and with a lot more connections (26 at the end) and, getting as far as '175175 blocks remaining' before the dreaded M/soft Visual C++ Runtime Library message appeared and the wallet crashed.

I'll try again later.

Hi 4emily,

could you list the microsoft Visual C++ Redistribuable package you have ? (in programs and features) ?

Do you have Antivir Pro ?

When you right-click on opalcoin.conf and choose property: does win7 tells you it is a .conf file ?

is your Opalcoin-Qt folder (where you should have opalcoin.exe ) is in the "Downloads" folder ?
If yes please cut & paste Opalcoin-Qt folder on you Desk.
then, save your wallet.dat and your opalcoin.conf erase all the files and folder in C:\Users\~\AppData\Roaming\opalcoin
then paste your opalcoin.conf on it and start your wallet.

could you list the microsoft Visual C++ Redistribuable package you have ? (in programs and features) ?

The 1st 5 listed below came pre-installed on my OS; the last 2 form part of Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 which I d/loaded from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679; that package includes a 3rd file, called vcredist_arm.exe, but as mentioned in a previous post, vcredist_arm.exe can't be run because, despite meeting the system requirements of this file, my Windows 7 service pack 1 OS doesn't see this file as a valid Win 32 application.

Do you have Antivir Pro ?

No.

I run Norton Internet Security, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware,  Zemana Anti-Malware and Zemana Anti-Logger

When you right-click on opalcoin.conf and choose property: does win7 tells you it is a .conf file ?

Yes - CONF File (.conf)

is your Opalcoin-Qt folder (where you should have opalcoin.exe ) is in the "Downloads" folder ?

No, when I d/loaded the Opal-Qt-opaque.1.3.1 folder it was (automatically) saved in 'My Documents'

I'll do that tomorrow (it's getting late now) and post results - in meantime, many thanks for your further help. Much appreciated  Smiley

Quick to assume.. What do you think would be useful?
Building platforms to continue developing and expanding on seems pretty useful. Don't forget OPAL is part of SuperNet and there is much development going on there as well.
Wait for some releases, new wallet, opal drive, and colour core, and I'm sure we will be ok. Smiley

It is more quiet than usual right now. I think Dev's have their hands full making sure all the new releases will come out without a hitch.

I believe we should be getting some news today, excited to hear how this turns out.
