What the hell just happened?

Edit: Did someone just push a $50k order at once?

Something doesn't seem right. Someone with $50k to invest is probably smart enough to realize they could have slowly bought over 2-3 days at a much lower cost-average than a single market price order. Perhaps they wanted to break the technical boundary and send a signal to the market? This is very bullish, imo.

Maybe they have a lot more than $50K that they intend to invest.
This could be the signal to attract other sellers into the market so they can buy a lot more.

Someone with $50k to invest still has to wonder whether someone with $51k is going to get in before them and push the price up.

So getting the coins NOW might be important to them for that reason.

I just got home from work and pulled up bitcoincharts and then, WTF!

Bitcoin Fact: the price of bitcoin will not be greater than $70k for more than 25 consecutive days at any point in the rest of recorded human history.

And, seriously, where did all this new hashing power come from?  Something's fishy.

It would be great if this was a few individuals making large purchases as opposed to one guy. Maybe the print media just hit

It might be Adam Curry who mentioned it on his podcast. He might have sold his gold bar to buy bitcoins.

There is now an open buy order on MTGOX for 6000 BTC  @ $4 each.   ($24,000 USD worth)

I wonder if it is the same guy.

EDIT  ***** It's gone now.   It looks like we have a big stealth buyer lurking on Mt. Gox *****

Or several big stealth buyers .... the forbes magazine guys who read it in bed in their smoking jackets at the hamptons spent the first 24 hours thinking "wtf is this, geek money!? huh?" ... the next few hours ringing brokers etc to see how they can get in on it ... and now show up ... that's the sharp or desperate ones ... the big rollers will be slower and more methodical like elephants but it will be unmistakeable if they show up ... 0.02 btc worth.

This was just a late night buy or maybe a larger Japanese investor that didn't understand how MtGox worked, IMHO.

Something doesn't seem right. Someone with $50k to invest is probably smart enough

I meet one man which speculated thousands of dollars on bitcoin/mtgox. I was surprised that he doesn't know too much about how this exchange works technically. For example that he can place order to some price level and wait until it is filled by others and NOT move the market by his order...
