I am looking for an 8 port or larger SATA or SAS RAID Card.
I don't care what bus it is, as long as in the end it either supports PCIe or 32bit PCI.
(backwards compatible PCI-X/133 or 64bit PCI are fine if 32bit support exists, even at a performance loss)
This is for a home media server, so top-notch performance is not too important.
I would prefer an Intel hardware RAID processor that supports RAID 6 (Areca etc), but RAID 5 is fine, as that is all I plan to run anyways.
It does not need to support large Boot Volumes (as it will be for storage only), but it will need to support as a MINIMUM 6 TB (six terabyte) RAID 5 volumes and 3 TB (three terabyte) single SATA drives.
In a perfect world, on 8 ports, the plan is to run 1x 9TB RAID 5 array (4x 3TB drives) + 1x 6TB RAID 5 array (3x 3 TB) with a single 3TB common hot spare.
If I can find a 12 port card that fits the bill instead of an 8 port, I will probably WET myself.
**SILICON IMAGE CHIPSETS NEED NOT APPLY
I also will consider HBA's as long as Windows Server 2008 is supported and they are not Silicon Image/HiPoint etc. based.
Top tier chipsets/manufacturers only (Adaptec/3Ware/LSi or HP/Dell/IBM re-brand).....
RAID 5 support would still be required.
I don't care about cables or specific SAS interface (if SAS controller) as I have a ton of spares and can buy adapters to meet my needs if required, but I will only be using SATA drives......if that helps.
Let me know what you have and what you want for it.

I've been looking to sell one of these for quite a while now. Not sure if you are going to put this into a ZFS based box, but I have, and it worked great with 2 tb drives. It supports 64 lba's. That's far beyond 2tb per controller. Granted the card is old (sata 1 does have it's draw backs depending on your application) but it's solid. I'm also only asking 3btc. Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable. I never believe them. If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins. I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion. Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice. Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

PCI-X works just fine in a 32bit. Plus it supports JBOD. I'll partially split shipping, it'll be around 2btc.

oops. i missed that earlier. Its an older 4 port, but i am not truly in a position to sell till i replace it with an 8 port kinda like yourself.
i do love those Aerca cards there are designed with some real engineering and intelligence in mind not just profit.
