I recently transferred an an approximate 8 BTC's to a Bitcoin address initially warranted by the program 'Bitcoin-Qt'. (Mac OS)

However, I recently discovered I must synchronize it with the network in order to receive them, downloading blocks.
I opened the program exempted from this process, perhaps this is an error on my part?

Is this as well an autonomous process, or must I approach it by some means?

Take a look at this:

Once it is caught up, the green checkmark in the bottom right will appear.

Much appreciated.

I equally presume, as it catches up, my past transactions will become evident?
