Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Depends on your strategy.

My trading is automated, and based on the hypothesis that the price will eventually return to whatever it was yesterday (which seems like a safe bet in a highly volatile market such as this). So for me, now is a good time to buy - and indeed, I already bought when the price dipped 12 hours ago.
If there is something that will make Bitcoin succeed, it is growth of utility - greater quantity and variety of goods and services offered for BTC. If there is something that will make Bitcoin fail, it is the prevalence of users convinced that BTC is a magic box that will turn them into millionaires, and of the con-artists who have followed them here to devour them.
