Because Intel just released an OpenCL driver and people are curious how HD-4000 is going to perform in a mining application?

I for one am really interested in that info.

I offered to loan out my Late 2011 Macbook Pro or the rig in my sig to anyone who has an HD4000 in Houston amongst my Facebook friends but no one bit yet.

I think the HD4000 will be rathar week at OpenCL, but imagine a botnet with thousands of them...

Those Price are good today. Also, save 50$ on the motherboard too. It's a shame they don't ship a lot of the stuff.

The $50 is only on the 3570k combo, correct?

I wouldn't get too excited on Ivy Bridge for GPU performance.

The GPU is inferior to AMD current gen "APU".   They get 60 MH/s and get to take advantage of AMD superior int performance (BFI).

While there are no OpenCL specs yet looks like Ivy Bridge GPU is ~ 80% of the performance of AMD HD 6570

That would put it in the 40 MH/s range assuming equivalent IOPs efficiency.  My guess is it will lack optimized OpenCL compiler and some important instructions so it probably is in the 20 MH/s to 30 MH/s range.

Still it is nice to finally see Intel support OpenCL.  The bad news is even @ 30 MH/s ea a major botnet of say 100K would be 3TH/s.  I don't see this as anything but a negative for miners.

I don't think most people were really expecting Ivy to match Llano in GPU performance. The interest on my part is more in relation to your last couple sentances. IB will have 16 (HD4000) or 6 (HD2500) of the new EUs, while Haswell will (according to Anandtech) use the same shaders topping out at 40 for the GT3 configuration. Even if the majority of CPUs sold are 6-10EU (or whatever the baseline Haswell GPU has) and only get 10MH/s, there is going to be a massive market out there for bot makers in 3 years when there's hundreds of millions of 10MH/s CPUs in the wild.

Aah okay, I haven't really been keeping up with all this stuff other than chanting thrice daily the mantra 'CPUs are rubbish for mining, mkay?'.

Having said that, D&T's post is bloody depressing. It looks like IvyBridges are still too crap to be a viable option for a single miner with a few rigs, but are *just* good enough that someone could set up a botnet to use hundreds of thousands of them and fuck the rest of us over.

I can buy one to forward to you for exact cost you see linked in the first post, + $5 shipping for just the Chip, or $10-$15 for the sealed retail box with stock fan. Luckily for us here in the US, I think it's cheaper than any other countries

Not that I'm vouching for him, but he probably lives near a Microcenter. Those people near a Microcenter get to buy a 3770k for $290, the rest of us have to pay $350.

In fact, I will do the same thing (within the US/Canada) at Microcenter prices if anyone is interested. I drive pretty close by to a Microcenter every day and they appear to have 10+ in stock.

You pay cost + tax + shipping + a small fee (let's say $3) and I'll send you (or the escrow) your 3770K.

I got an i7-2600k last year.  I couldn't wait for the ivy bridge models.    But the i7-3770k looks nice.

I do use the intel integrated graphics, but not for mining.

IB is not really an upgrade over SB The two main advantages are PCI-E 3.0 or HD4000.

It appears to use slightly less power than SB-E but runs hotter and doesn't overclock as well.

IB uses a lot less power than SB-E. You give up a huge amount of performance in heavily threaded tasks like rendering, but the power consumption is much lower.
