Exactly this.  Choosing a 9.5 month horizon over which to evaluate an investment is just fine...as long as your investment time horizon is 9.5 months. 

Of course, what happens if you look at a trailing twelve month view?  How do you like bitcoin NOW?  Compared to gold, silver, S&P 500, anything you want.  What about a three year view?

The ETF has been priced in accordingly in my views also, what we don't know is what is Winklvii is going to do with the USD income from the initial sells of the ETF shares.

There will be 1M shares (200,000 BTC) - which equate 1 share to 0.2BTC in principle (excluding holding fees, trading costs, etc) - So assuming right now at $450 per BTC a shares value is $90USD.  Making the full 1M shares if they choose to sell that way worth $90 M USD (assuming someone buys all instantly)

Now what does the Winklvii do

1. Pocket $90 USD and hold onto their own personal BTC stash
2. Buy more BTC with for themselves and make profits off of holding/trades in ETF
3. Buy more BTC to add to the 1M shares at same rate of 0.2BTC/ETF share
4. Combo of all options

This is what is not priced into ETF

Okay, I'll do that. Maybe bitcoin will be one mirrrrion dollars by then. Or maybe zero. In the mean time, it's a volatile market, and timing entry is important. I'd prefer to see a reversal of the bear market before entering any (new) long term position, as averaging down in a bear market is simply bad risk management.

I cashed in my twins' college fund this morning to buy more.

They're only 6 but very wise and mature... I told them we could buy bitcoins that will be worth at least 1 million dollars by the time they're in high school, and they agreed I should buy more now while I still can!

Someone work this out in excel then, buy bitcoin every day this year and what would the worth be now.      Just pointing out to us that btc peaked and fell isnt useful as every asset does this and we cant say it wont go higher in future.
Thats where BTC is useful, I can buy it a hundred times.   A house I have to buy once usually, gold you got to buy at least an ounce but really theres no reason for people to go all in on btc and hope for the best.   The exchanges let people buy tiny amounts if they want, if you really dream of the long term story why not buy every day for a year.   Makes more sense to me as most people have most wealth in gradual earnings

Last time things started to get interesting on september.

Why arent we saying over the last year because in that case btc rose.   YTD is one way to frame it but it is just one of many and right now that comes close to the peak

At least I sold my Litecoin position that said it does make me curious what percentage relative gain it has now with the altcoin army in full swing as well, but I guess it has a decent value proposition now like Bitcoin.
