The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

The miners mine and hold, other mine and sell.

Investors and speculators buy, hold and sell.

You can buy random items in auctions and through the forums.

What are the reasons for the bulk of the bitcoin transfers? I read an article underlying the "dark side" of the internet and TOR network, and they seem to point out that bitcoins are now nearly the exclusive currency for the online "black market" (Note, they are not saying bitcoins are exclusively used for black market transactions)

What have you used bitcoins for?

Miner
Investor
Black Market
Other - explain

I dont have it yet for the meantime but if i do, maybe will keep it till the price will be a little bit higher as most of us speculate it.

Actually I am now planning to have a new phone for its browser doesn't support reCAPTCHA. My android phone is an old model so that it happens. It is okay for me because I know that it is just part of the forums improvement especially in terms of security.

Well I am just keeping my bitcoin right in my wallet and converting it to cash for some time whenever I've got a short budget . I never used it to black market or any of the following which you had mentioned but I did used it on dice for a short time . I just realized that its mich better to just save every amount that I am earning .

EDIT: wait I didn't noticed that this thread was posted 5 years ago Grin I'm just sharing my experience .

Need some spare btc for a new PC

Right now, I'm using it as a side income to help with phone and internet bills. Right now tho, if the last signature campaigns pays out, I'll have something to hold besides what I've invested earlier, and will be able to earn more from signature campaigns and just stack in my wallet. Just waiting for the CORION signature campaign to pay. :|

Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

The same thing that we use Fiat for. Bitcoin is nothing special as simply a digital currency that is legally considered a commodity. There's no reason that we should be using Bitcoin for anything different than we have used fiat for years.  The difference in only that fiat is old which bitcoin is relativity new and known by few people only.

Well, I use my bitcoin to invest on online market or trading sites and investing will help you to gain high salary. In addition to that, after I invest in trading sites the coin that I have bought on trading will help me to gain more income because I will hold it for a long time. I believe that holding is one of the best way to gain much income.

There are many purposes for me to use bitcoin but I think the main reason is that I want to earn more money. People are obsessed by money and they are trying to make more and more money, including me. I have to make more money to travel the world and do what I want in this world

I personally use it as a manner of investing my hard earned money. Bitcoin is probably the most birght investment asset of the decade so putting money it isn't bad since I've nearly doubled my money since I first purchased a couple of months ago. Adding up to that I just genuinely believe in the blockchain technology.

Oh wow. I'm looking at investing as well. I've come across lots that took the risk of investing to bitcoins and I'm being encouraged to try it myself seeing everyone receives positive returns on investments

To be honest,i have just used my bitcoin for recharging my mobile.Unfortunately, bitcoin has not been announced legal in india and there are no large number of services which accept bitcoin payment.I would have to wait for six more months to buy any thing in india with bitcoin as bitcoin would have been made legal by that time.I'm a little bit crazy about electronic gadgets and i had an idea of buying electronic gadgets online with bitcoin. But bitcoin price increasing highly nowadays had made me to reconsider the idea of spending bitcoin and just to hold it as an investment.
