Dont let your miner/s celebrate too long.... crack the whip and let them mine on!

Let them confirm this block first and then hit the next block.  JMO.  Smiley

You can't say 1.4GWh (energy) for a miner - miners are rated in power (kW) - the "h" part depends on how long you run it.

Energy (TWh) for all humans is computed annually so ~20,000 TWh (first table on that wiki page) - which is Watts of power generated times the length of time over which it was generated - so total Watts (in a year) * total hours (in a year) = Watt-hr   (I think it would be OK to call this Watt-hr/annum)

The first couple of times I did this I was WAY off because I sort of ignored that stuff...
I guess it should be checked by rolling everything back to the fundamental units - all the way back to Joules (Watt = J/sec.) and carefully carry the time through the calculation...

DUMB QUESTION: If you order something online and pay with Btc (actually send it), and what you ordered never shows up, you've just been scammed, right?  How do you deal with this Btc flaw?  (in this way Btc is pretty much like cash - at least with a credit card you're sorta protected from scams - am I seeing this correctly?)

So a million S9's use 1,400 million Watts of power, or 1.4 GigaWatts of power.

The total annual electric energy generated by humanity is about 24,000 TeraWatt-hours.  (wikipedia)

Final improved calc (I also made a mistake in original calc)

1.4 Gwh for miners
2.31 TWh (2310 Gwh) continuous average for Earth
see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_energy_consumption
1.4/2310=0.0006 or 0.06%
maybe if you count less efficient miners, the real number is 50% higher (although I doubt it because old miners like S7produce 3-4 times less than S9) to 0.1%

0.1% is max, with 0.07-0.075% being more realistic.

However, banks consume at least five times more energy:

well, i got ~0.1% and this source agrees:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2017/12/19/why-the-bitcoin-craze-is-using-up-so-much-energy
referenced also here:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2018/01/08/bitcoin-is-the-new-middle-ages

besides, it looks like you got some wrong idea about kwh.
here is a good explanation:
http://www.energylens.com/articles/kw-and-kwh

in other words when you compare energy use between two entities (miners and whole earth) all that matters is a proportion as long as you use exactly the same units (and timeframe). Wikipedia page (just look at it carefully) says that:
Quote
In 2008, the world total of electricity production was 20.279 petawatt-hours (PWh). This number corresponds to an average power of 2.31 TW continuously during the year. The

No need to do any hours per year calculation.
1.4 GW continuous energy use for miners (your number)
2.31 TW continuous energy use for earth (from wiki)

1.4/2310=0.06% (adjusted to 0.075 by me to compensate for older miners; others think that you need to compensate more to 0.1%)

DUMB answer: if your government decided to eliminate two most popular cash denominations overnight and you were preparing that cash to pay for your daughter wedding, what you are going to do? stay in 1000 people line? Cry? whatever.

If you want serious answer-market will evolve just like it always does , probably mostly on feedback, but it IS YOUR money vs NOT REALLY your money. Get it?

much better than stupid dance comments.
is this some kind of voodoo convention?
if yes, then maybe calls to "deities" piss them off and give you bad luck

The moment you send a transaction and it is confirmed by the network, you only get your BTC back if the person who receives it decides to send it back to you.

Look at the Nicehash hack, for example: Everyone knows which address held the stolen BTC, but they sure as hell aren't getting it back.

I could use a little help in trying to understand these Avalon A6 miners.....

My 3 S7's are averaging around 4.7 TH
Yet my Avalons, which are "daisy chained" with 5 machines are one controller and 6 on the other are only averaging 5 TH and 10.7 TH.

Is something wrong? Are they competing or canceling out work? I though they should be combining a total hash of around 17.5 TH and 21 for a combined of 38.5 TH +/-

Like I said, the S7's seem to be doing what they are supposed to.

Do I need to split these up on another controller or what is going on here?

Nothing happens until something moves.

What is the voltage offset on your controller? Seems very low for the A6s, which should be around 3.5TH/s each.

You should post a pic of the miner status screen from your controller.

^^ This

I started almost the same time as you and the reward is what it should be for me. Until you reach full payout after the ramp up period you will earn less. But if you leave you get paid for the ramp down period so it will even out depending on blocks found and timing. Just need to be patient and it will pay off in the long run.

I'm not sure how to do that.

I have the screenshots, but I can't add them to this reply for some reason.

Save them to an imgur.com album, and post the links - probably should go in Mining Support vs. here.

Bear with me, I can get get it to post the images directly, only the link. I posted in between the image parameters.

If I reboot the machines, they hash at what they are supposed to then sort of slow down slowly from there.

New accounts can't post images. Just post the URL to the album.

Hashrate drops like that can be caused by a lot of things, but typically it is PSU related. Try to run them at -2 voltage and see if it continues. What PSU are you using?

They are 2400 watt PSU from Parallel Miner. Delta Electronics

I'm gonna take a break.  I have sat at this desk for nearly 200 hours, watching the counter since the last block.  I need to go get some sleep, take a shower, throw out the pizza boxes, recycle the 57 coke cans, and change my socks.  Not necessarily in that order.....   Roll Eyes

Thanks for taking a break. It got us a block.  Wink

As the old saying goes, "A watched pot never boils."

No problem.   I actually just woke up, I only looked at the forum, haven't even looked at the payout or anything yet....  Maybe it was my fault.. I'll stay away from the computer.   If memory serves me,  this happened to me before...  like two or 3 blocks ago...  I WILL REFRAIN FROM CLICKING REFRESH...  Undecided
