It doesn't look like I've received payment for block# 443121. Is it just me?
That payment will be confirmed by the next block that we will find.

Just curious, if I up my Difficulty for an S7 up to something like 300000, will that hurt anything?
I'm trying to get my Wimax bill down, and for some reason it seems at my rates my S7s are causing some decent usage (1mbps ain't much to work with though lol)
Does Difficulty have anything to do with bandwidth usage?

Difficulty will decrease your bandwidth up only. Increasing your diff dramatically will simply increase your variance so your payouts will be slightly less consistent but overall will be the same. Additionally the pool will transiently under- and over-report your hashrate over the short term, but overall it will still be the same. Diff on this pool is chosen to give less than 1% variance for miners, but block-to-block variance is much greater than that anyway, as you can see.

This pool hasn't had amonth above 100% since june and october., and may barely made it in there. It's hard to keep people around when the stats don't lie and things haven't been good here for awhile.

Kano always says it's a numbers game, but since the halving, this pool has been struggling for some reason.

Which sucks.
Yeah I've spent (as I do each time I process a payout, but today a lot more) time going through the numbers.
The current monthly stats are actually all even from May to the end of November, excluding the last block of November.
This bad run of luck began with that last block in November and as we all know has continued.

So while, indeed this month so far has been very bad, the total since May excluding this current run of bad luck is above 100%.

So, no I can't agree at all with your analysis of the data Smiley

Here's the table from the stats page, I edited November, only removing the last block of November.
Code:
Month     Got  Expected
2016 Nov   69   69.78 (I removed the last block of November)
2016 Oct   82   79.69
2016 Sep  110  113.72
2016 Aug  126  134.02
2016 Jul  126  127.32
2016 Jun  132  119.14
2016 May  126  125.37

Total blocks: 771
Expected blocks: 769.04
= Luck: 100.25%

Again, yes we have had a very bad run of luck since the last block of November, but that's basically it.

Want more Blocks?

Shift the hash power from other pools to here.

Bring in more people.

Slush increased from 84 PH in Jul to 150 PH now
antpool increased from 330 PH/s in Jul to 440 PH now
btc.com get 130 PH from Sep to now

kano is the only pool decreased in this period of time from 43 to 29 now
we can't get people to pool they are not convinced by

Not to put Kano down, as I know bells a whistles mean nothing.
But I've tried bringing a few friends over and they honestly won't leave slush because of the slick and shiny UI,
I realize on the pure mining side of things.. that means very little...
As well bitmain has a large market due on part to their own mining, as well as many noob miners buy an antminer, see antpool and just go with it, with no further thought or looking into it.

A shiny interface would help a bit but I realize could be pricey.
I don't need shiny, however a responsive UI that doesn't require me to login every 30 minutes to refresh stats, and getting more stats on one page. Would help.. A bit.. at least for attracting people who go towards shiny things.

There is another example - eligius, this year he also lost most of the power, and now less than 2ph.
Respectively, and the percentage of all network units it will be even less, and considering that the other pools have grown - this figure will be even less.

Judging by blocktrail - the year he found the 219 blocks that 0.4% of the total. if we compare the value of the previous year the result deteriorated.

Luck. Further if you look at the success of this pool
http://image.prntscr.com/image/d09110587dde48b7a824275e89cbd749.png - screen last blocks + luck
it becomes clear that there was a lot more units with less success. conclusion is that the smaller the pool of power, the less chance of finding a block. after all other pools really grown over the year.

I agree with the opinion of the smaller pool of capacity, the smaller units for the year, we will be able to find. I'm not talking about the good fortune in a short period.

One more thing while we sit during periods of low luck without blocks, complexity is growing and that we reach the PPS, in the next month we have to find a lot more blocks.

Interesting. I mine here because it's transparent, openly managed, and for all appearances over an extended period of time, honest. I don't give a rusty duck about a fancy GUI; I want to see hard numbers and open structure, and that's out front here and not buried. I'm reasonably confident that bad luck is simply that.

I've been doing this for several years. I came here last year. I'm not going anywhere.

Mine on.

To infinity and beyond...on two 741s and one of only 3...nope, make that 4...full nodes in Hawaii...on <30A. (I have other gear on the Hoth ice planet)

I agree, a fancy GUI isn't important to me either, Although a bit more condensed homepage would be nice.
I'm just passing on what some of my friends have said, which means others feel it to.

Everyone who has done website design etc. Knows that info on a site isn't what pulls everyone in, look layout and feel are a big part, Even if it's irrelevant to the purpose.

The sad truth is most people prefer a site that has so much crap that they only use 10% of it over a site that has exactly what they want/use.  Undecided

If you have to ask "why?", you wouldn`t understand my answer.

Bitminter's got a good website layout and they've lost most of their hash power over the last 2 months.

my 2c is that when kano had 45 Ph, having a good site might have moved him to 100 or above and it would have been less luck fluctuation.
It is less relevant now as only the 'hard core" remains.
Regarding utility of flashy sites-i find slush's interface too buzy. On the home page there are few things that are truly relevant and most important is a oneliner hyperlink. Google had a single line box for years; it did not hurt them at all.

I wonder if someone can built a mathematical model for this. My hypothesis would be that smaller sites can only survive for long with high or moderate luck. If they are small, bad luck period can basically fluctuate them out of existence as there is a possibility of a vicious loop.

There is no way to know if a change in hashrate would have any affect on luck.
Yes, it would potentially give us more blocks per day, but that does not necessarily correlate to an increase in luck.

Agreed, Zach. We can't deduce that factor because luck itself is not a scientifically definable element...and if you can wrap your head around that one, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to talk to you about...  Grin  I have so much fun here it's ridiculous.

Seriously...hindsight is always clearer. I've always appreciated Kano's...and Con's...positions, and at least for me that's far more important than a slick site or catch-phrase PR...no matter the luck factor. I'd much rather have a pool operator whose acumen is in the specific technology, rather than in marketing/sales.

I gotta go have some real fun and clean house. Mine on.

We always see people pool hopping during bad luck and then returning once we get hot again.

Furthermore we had a few people who think s9's are unlucky on kano.is that have moved and likely will return when they see the same bad streaks elsewhere. Then there are the noobs who are easily enticed by Amazon gift cards or Roger Ver-fied zero fee pools.

of course it would have; not on luck itself, but stdev of blocks per day, almost certainly.
organofcorti should correct if i am wrong.

A smaller pool should typically have more variation in the number of blocks mined per day than a larger pool.

to me, this ^^ sounds right.
