Guess I was wrong about hitting a block yesterday. Life would be so much easier if you could see the future!

Let's hope the random number generators are in our favor soon.

You were wrong, but the cruelest part of it is with the DB reset, I had a notification this morning that we had found a block and for a split second I was like...holy shit...dude was right. He called it straight Ms. Cleo style, he should be charging $3.99 a minute for his advice!

Speaking of notifications... I just realized today that my CKPool Status app isn't notifying me. I know it just updated, so I'm wondering if anyone else isn't getting refreshed #s and notifications.

You'll know for sure if you try to resave your settings. Mine is saying invalid API even though I haven't made any changes.

Sorry if kinda off topic.

Hopefully block soon, in the meantime quick newbie question, apologies if I appear dumb or been asked before.
So we are mining to find a new block?
Where does Bitcoin transactions and the fees associated with that fall in with mining for a block or is that something completely separate?

It's whatever we find in that block.  We don't have any transactions of our own to payout so you just take what's in the block and MOVE ON!

So we are mining to find a new block?
Better to think of it as we're always "mining to find the next block" (of the blockchain).

Finally nicehash paid me my new wallet balance, and only 10 % of the stolen funds from before, so I FINNALLY got a chance to consolidate my wallet.  I picked the El Cheapo fee... lets see how long this takes.

Cost me .00052   which is like 5 bux..  BUT HAPPY TO SUPPORT THE MINING POOL - that confirms my block!

EDIT:  took about 45 minutes to confirm.   Fees must be really low if they scraped up my transaction from the bottom!

Yes, we are mining to find a new block, and then add transactions to that block.

The blockchain is a giant book of transactions. Finding a block is adding a page to that book. In order to add the page, a miner performs the work Kano and others said.

Part of that work is a set of transactions we'll include in the block (on the page we add.) This list is pulled from the unconfirmed transactions that the pool gets from the network.

As a reward for adding the transaction to our new page, we get the TX fees for that transaction. Kano's pool, unlike some other big pools, pays these fees to the miners.

@kano - in light of my last post about Diff a sudden hash rate drop right before the jump then back?

The diff is averaged over 2016 blocks - so a drop right before wouldn't really impact that much.

Well to do the math on that Smiley
2016 blocks - 1% is 20.16 blocks - 0.1% is 2.016 blocks
- so with an extra 20 minutes in a single block (or 2 missing average length blocks) you can reduce the diff change by almost 0.1%

Edit: and the diff change was:
Code:
[2018-02-07 10:04:08.448+11] workinfo_add(): DIFF CHANGE: hi=508032 delta=10.43% new=2874674234415.9 prev=2603077300218.6

Edit2: and totally randomly, but slightly related Smiley the last 4 blocks since the diff change have averaged 20 minutes each
... and each has been pretty close to 20 minutes - 19min, 17min, 19min, 25min
