What about escrowed transactions? On Bitmit.net or something else?

This. And what does the Kindle come with ? Only the kindle itself or including the accessories that you'll normally get with a new purchase? Would WhisperSync with the device work without amazon taking it down?

You can use a drop / alternate address / reshipping service, I have said this many times. Products are shipped as replacements, companies do not ask for the product back, so we do not need to use credit cards, and the customer will not be billed for any reason. [...]
So I guess we'll have to trust your word on that one? Either way, no one is going to find out within a few months.

OP is socially engineering. Stay away if you value the integrity of your home address.

Yes, we can use an escrow. I encourage this. Go find a drop or reshipping service if you're paranoid. I've shipped thousands of dollars worth of pens to my home address a year ago and have never had problems.
Devices are replacements voluntarily given out by the company, they will behave like all other devices, because that is what they are. Of course you can do anything with them.
I am currently finishing some large fuelband + kindle orders, hmu if you want some too

Not sure how escrow will help you 3 months from now, when you get a bill for your supposedly cheap product. Of course it's "voluntarily" given to you by the company. I can't imagine how a company can involuntarily give someone electronics. (maybe Nyaaan held a gun to the CEO's head? )

Not only that but I think this is the type of behaviour that causes increased prices for all of us so that the retailer can compensate for things like this and RMAing intentionally broken GPUs through overclocking etc.

Use your a drop, if you're paranoid. Nobody is stopping you. Why would you be billed after 3 months anyways, and not 3 days?

I also admire people who keep your money for you. It's like a free bank account, except you can never withdraw.

fail logic. you're expected to return the product after you received your "replacement". after a few months, they eventually give up and assume you're a scammer, so they send you a bill.
