I had the V6.0 and it wasn't updating so I got the 6.2 and still nothing, its been hours.

I'm getting this message at the bottom of the window...

WARNING: Displayed transactions may not be correct! You may need to upgrade, or other nodes may need to upgrade.

Any ideas? thanks

I've seen my wallet take a long time to download the blockchain if I haven't run the bitcoin client for a long time on one of my machines. Do you have a backup of your wallet.dat?

If you kill your data and then run the btc client, it will take a very long time to download the block chain. It took over a day for me on a macbook pro some weeks ago.

your data is located in different places depending on your os

Look here https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory.
