Good Afternoon and Hello! I have a few new S3s, and they work great and all, but they are horrendously noisy. Does anyone know the CFM rating on the existing fans, and has anyone found quieter replacements for them? I would very much like to keep the noise down as I do not have a lot of space and have to have them setup in general occupied areas. I have one in my room on the window sill with the window open and it keeps my S3 in the mid 30s since it is getting chilly around here, and the fans stay pretty quiet and slow. The other is in the living room, and since it is an enclosed area with no windows, this one hovers in the high 40s with the fans kicking pretty high and loud. Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you all in advance!

the s-3 can be made quiet with two fan mods  use this as the pull fan

http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Cooler-Computer-Cooling-FHP-141/dp/B00A460TK6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1450763307&sr=8-4&keywords=silverstone+140

the plug needs to be shaved, but it is a direct fit.

most of us feel this 1  as the pull fan lowers sound enough.

you can add a second one but you need to cut it just a bit to fit under the ethernet cord.

Now this is for the s-3 not the s-5 that you are asking.

you can also lower the s-3 from 225 to 212 or 206 freq that will help with sound.

You really are better off just doing a voltage mod and undervolting your S3. It will use less power and be much more silent then with a fan mod.

The fans are expensive and in the long run its cheaper to just undervolt.

Thanks guys! and sorry for the late reply, for some reason I have not been getting updates to replies on any of my posts. When it comes to fans, what is better, higher CFM or higher Static pressure?

neither   on the the s-3

on the s-5  higher static pressure

on the s-7 did not test much  I just down clocked and lowered fan speed of stock fan.

Thanks! I am thinking about getting some NOCTUA fans to replace the existing ones, I did some random google searching and found that some people get the same cooling with less sound output...

whats your take?

whats your take?

they were not good enough for the s-5.

the silverstone 141 for the s-3  was very good as the pull fan and then a slight down clock to about freq 212 pretty quiet.

I don't recommend the noctua

silver stone

http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Cooler-Computer-Cooling-FHP-141/dp/B00A460TK6/ref=sr_1_1?

get one and use as a pull on the s-3 drop freq to 212  instead of 250

I put a pair of the noctua's on my S5 in push-pull configuration.  Worked fine - had it OC'd a touch and with fans set manually at 82% it was quieter than the stock fan (not hard to do) and not all that loud overall.

Now I just need to do the same to the S7 jet engines...
